I don't think my Tacoma drives well with the 0 mm offset but I think I'm picky. At highway speeds there's just more wandering and less straight line stability than I really like. The steering feels really loose - I think that's the worst part and it comes and goes. It could be the offset with the tires I'm running. I believe it'd be the same with any 16x8 0 mm offset wheel so not an issue with the F5s themselves. It might improve enough not to be noticeable if I just went up to a larger diameter tire which would reduce the scrub radius a little (I think). But I don't want to run bigger than 265/75/16. My issues started immediately after changing wheels so I know that's where it started. I think the more modest 13mm of the pro might get me where I want to be.

    2020 Tacoma TRD Off Road

Very useful information. I just acquired a 2020 Off Road, and was in the market for wheels. Since damn near every wheel on the aftermarket for the Tacoma has "0" offset, I assumed that was the stock offset. You know what happens when you assume things...

So I ordered some wheels in "0" offset, but in test fitting prior to mounting tires I found that was pretty far off from stock...I think stock offset is +25mm. So I was pondering if I really wanted to use these new wheels, found this site looking for information, and found exactly what I wanted. My truck is first and foremost transportation, I expect to drive it over 300K miles, and I am not willing to sacrifice even a slight amount of driveability for cool wheels. Looks like the new super-cool "0" offset wheels are going back...

What I don't fully understand though, is how Toyota can offer such a wide range of offsets on what is essentially the same vehicle. Reading through some of the information here, I see that the 2020 TRD Pro and the 2020 TRD Off Road use wheels with significantly different offset. Every resource claims that retaining stock or close to stock offset is important for suspension/steering geometry and wheel bearing life, yet I do not believe that the TRD Pro and the Off Road use different wheel bearings or suspension geometry. So some leeway must be acceptable...

You may want to search 2020 Pro style wheels as they come in a larger 17" version which opens up some C-load tires. also, You can play with this online calculator...

Just to be clear, these 2020 Tacoma Pro wheels are 13mm not 0. So these would give you a 1" wider track width, vs 2" with your 0mm offset wheels.

I believe the OEM Tacoma Pro wheels are 16" only. Any you see that are 17" are aftermarket.

Yeah, I read that. I might consider the "Pro" down the road.

I guess I am simply not a fan of the 2020 Off-Road wheels. I don't know what it is...I just find them overly styled and overly busy looking...or something. They remind me of the 1980s styling trends on Japanese cars. But just test fitting the aftermarket wheels I ordered, there was not only the offset issue, I realized I would also need longer studs and new lug nuts, and hub centric rings as well if I really wanted to be anal about it. The "PITA" quotient kept growing....

Anybody here who has switched from the Off-Road wheels to the "Pros" noticed any change in driveability as a result?

Correct. OEM Tacoma pro both 2017-19 and 2020+ are 16” wheels. The 4Runner pro wheels are 17”

Has anyone required a Pro VIN to order these? My dealership is a stickler for rules.

I think my truck drivers better with them on. Feels more stable. I have not encountered anything negative as far as handling.

They don't ship to Canada, unfortunately. Options are limited north of the border.

Well I and several others ordered thru dealerships and had no problem. I suspect they don't get nearly as many orders for these wheels as they did for the pro grille so they don't restrict it. Worst they can say is no and then try the next dealer

I've had the 2020 pro wheels installed now for about 10 days. The "higher" 13mm offset in comparison to my old 0 mm wheels seems to have improved steering significantly. I have noticed some wandering still at highway speeds but only once or twice and very briefly. I think my Duratracs (265/75r16 c load) have a tendency to wander a little bit at highway speeds. They out a ton of weight on one wheel to balance it and that one's been like that since new with several wheels.... With the stock +25mm offroad wheel I never noticed wandering. on the +13mm pro it's been very rare so far. With the 0mm aftermarket if I drove more than a few miles down the highway I'd experience it frequently. The steering felt way looser with 0 mm offset as well. All in all i'm really happy with the change to the pro wheel so far. I guess I could change the tire too but the few times I've had them off-road they were great. I haven't dialed in the pressure either with a chalk test so I may be able to improve the wandering that way too.

I thought I'd be done "dealing" with my Tacoma for a bit but now I've got intermittent squeaking/chirping coming from my engine - maybe my HPFP...but that's another topic for another thread....

Just try a different dealer. Or wait for the borders to open and save a couple hundred bucks lol

    Thanks much. Very helpful insight.

I know it's hard to say, but is it your feeling that the wandering you experience with the Pros vs the stock Off Road wheels is due to the lesser offset, or the tires you are running? I do use mine off-road quite a bit, but first and foremost it covers a lot of road miles, and I want to be careful not to screw up on-road driveability with any equipment changes...even if it means living with the ugly (IMHO) stock Off-Road wheels.

Hard to say but given Duratracs reviews on here tirrs could be a significant factor. The wandering sensation I've noticed with the pro wheels is so barely there most wouldn't notice. My wife didn't even think the 0 mm was off...so I think I'm just picky and I know that. 0mm wasn't the worst thing ever it was just loose steering mainly and I missed the tighter feel of stock. I have accepted all of this as part of the process of changing the vehicle but it's also encouraged me to stick closer to stock in the long run....no major lifts.etc in my future.

Only way to really find out is experiment yourself.

I know exactly what you mean. I am very picky about vehicle issues as well. Thank again.
