Hey everybody, I got a new to me ‘14 Limited over New Years, and I’ve been looking at the wheels ever since trying to figure them out. It looks the the chrome part is a separate piece, and could be removable from the wheel. I gave it a good tug and it doesn’t come off, but didn’t want to put too much force on it. Anyone have any experience with these?

Until someone else chimes in that knows for sure, I would guess that you have to remove the lug nuts to get the chrome cladding off.

I've got them on my limited and have done the same thing (looked for a way to strip off the plastic). The spare doesn't have the plastic cover - just cast aluminum and that look would be fine with me if I had a whole set. I'd like to see a whole set that was stripped and anodized. Tried shopping for spare wheels to see how hard it would be to get a couple and do the process two by two - but they aren't as cheap as I expected. If some one knows of a cheap spare I'd like to hear about it!

They do in fact come off but i recommend not doing it. Its held on at each spoke by a cement like glue. EXTREMELY hard to get off.

Once it does come off you gotta figure out how to get the glue off without scratching the wheels.

It basically looks the same under there, minus the chrome. And also no center cap

On another note. I have a set with the chrome still on I'm selling. You could use mine/or yours as a test set. :notsure:

Wouldn't the existing center cap still work? Could sand off the logo and paint them.

Negative, the cap snaps directly into the space on the chrome cover. The hole underneath is slightly larger. It falls right into the hole with nothing to snap into

As mentioned above the chrome cover is bonded to the underlying rim with an adhesive. Trying to remove the chrome covers seemed like too much work, and I wasn’t willing to try and find three more Limited spare rims to make a matching set.
I solved the chrome rim problem on my 2014 Limited by getting 4Runner Trail Edition rims when the first set of tires got close to wearing out. In my opinion those are the rims Toyota should have put on the Limited.
