This assumes that I know how to read a multimeter. I leave all the electrical to qualified people, I stick to fabrication

Yeah neither is welding but people that have never touched a stinger have no idea what to do with it. I have never messed with a multimeter hence it would be foreign to me

The difference though is that welding requires special skills but a reading a meter doesn’t. There’s no “technique” and nothing produced but information, just turn the knob and stick the probes. Seriously, a tv remote takes way more effort to learn. All you need to know can be learned in an hour. Yes the subject has great depth but using a meter just touches on the surface stuff.

Nice vid. I put some lube in mine that seems to help that spring from binding and getting stuck. It hasnt stopped working on me since I lubed it.

Does anyone know if there is another location to tap into besides the passenger side? Do the same wires exist on the driver's side?

Toyota sells an OEM complete plug and play. I had zero problems with mine. The actuator is different from the pop n lock and better built from what I can see. Just in case someone is throwing the towel on the PnL and wants to try the OEM.

The pop and lock was working great until I added the actuator for the topper to it. It's not enough power though to run them both. So I'm more just looking for just another, different spot to draw power from for the topper.

I have had continuous problems with mine. I had to put graphite in the lock cylinder and lithium grease on the actuator. Mine recently started to chatter and not move at all. I have disconnected it as it is becoming more of a headache than using the key.

I have used a meter to determine that I am getting 6 volts at the harness tap, at the tailgate removal connector and at the actuator itself. Even hooked the actuator directly to the tap and it did the same thing. If i get another, it will be the factory one. Mine last just long enough to get out of warranty.

Why does the aftermarket item exist with splices when the OEM kit exists in the first place? Is it really to save a few bucks?

The aftermarket lock was available long before there was an OEM option.
