    Hi All,

So in the midst of this quarantine, I thought I would use my free time to install a lift on my Taco. (this is the one I was thinking about... ).

I was wondering how easy it is to install a lift with the truck just jacked up and not lifted on an actual car lift. Unfortunately, this would be a driveway job so the truck wouldn't get much more than a foot off the ground. Thanks in advance!

If anyone has any advice on lifts in general or on the specific lift I chose, please share! I am an absolute noob when it comes to truck/car lifts so I need all the advice I can get.

Also its a 2019 MT Calvery Blue Sport for all you wondering!!

I wager more lifts are installed in driveways than by shops.

You need a floor jack and jack stands tall enough to support the truck with its tires off the ground but not on suspension components. In front that's not a problem but in the rear it means you need stands tall enough to touch the frame and let the rear springs droop.

I have a set of 12 ton stands for this like above. Not so much for the capacity but that they top out at 20". I got them at Harbor Freight during a sale. Alternatively you can build cribbing using wood (NEVER cinder or cement blocks) to get your stands to reach. With 6 ton stands you use a couple of 4x4s to gain some height.

In any case, front or rear, once you raise the truck and remove the wheels you gain clearance, a foot or more easily. So if you got out and measure your frame height off the deck right now it'll seem like you need 30" tall stands, which isn't the case.

Yes, it can be done. Do you have a nice set of heavy duty jack stands? Obviously, an actual floor lift would be great, but many on here have accomplished this in their driveway. Just use some common sense & be safe. Lots of helpful videos online. Good luck!

It can be done solo in the driveway.

    This.

While a lift would make things easier, there’s nothing difficult about doing it in a driveway.

It's pretty easy with the right jack stands and a jack that can get it tall enough Here's my video showing how to do the front, works on 4runner and Tacoma the same way.

A good jack, jackstands (6 ton are best to get the height you need) and basic hand tools are all you need to get the job done in a few hours. There are tons of YouTube videos to help you out. It is not hard.
