The TL;DR version - Cook something, snap a pic, post it in this thread along with a name for the entry, get ready for voting next Monday.

    The Quarantine Cousine TW Cook-Off
If you're like me, two things are happening right now:

    1. You're cooking at home even more due to local rules around staying home.
    2. You're looking for a little more excitement due to local rules around staying home.

Enter the Quarantine Cousine TW Cook-Off! You may have seen other cook-offs run in this sub (here and here) and this will be like that, but less formal and with a couple tweaks to some of the rules.

Still interested? Read on for details!

    -------------------------------------------------
    Important dates:

Submissions will be accepted between now and 11:59:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 12th.

Voting/judging will take place from Monday, April 13th through Friday, April 17th. We ended up winging this a bit. Voting goes until the morning of Tuesday, April 21st.

    -------------------------------------------------

    Rules:

    1. Participants will cook between now and midnight on Sunday, April 12th when submissions close. Cook something in accordance with the rules below and submit in this thread between now and then. Be sure that when you post your pic, you include a title for the submission and a brief description for the voters!

    2. The ONLY thing being asked to incorporate in to your submission is a beverage. That might be pairing a beverage of your choice with the food or it might be using a beverage item in the preparation of your food item (i.e. bourbon glaze, beer batter, wine reduction, apple juice injection, etc.). For whatever it is worth, I love whiskey .

    3. What do you have to cook on? Whatever the hell you want! Cook on the smoker, grill, oven, stove, open flame, microwave, sous vide, hot plate, crock pot, or any other cooking device you can think of. Hell, maybe it is a fresh fruit or sushi submission and you don't even have to cook it at all. Knock yourself out!
    -------------------------------------------------

    How to Enter:

    1. Cook your go-to, show stopping dish (go big and get creative!). Be ready to include a beverage somewhere in the submission (either cooked in to the food or paired with it at the end).

    2. Take a picture of your dish framed however you like.

    3. Put your submission in to a single post in this thread. You can post multiple pictures of the same dish, but only the first picture will be used when I consolidate all submissions to a single post for voting. Included in this post must be a name of the dish (i.e. Smoked Turkey Breast with Chocolate Stout Beer). I just need to call it something in the poll. It would be a good idea to include a description of your dish as well. In the post consolidating the entries, I will link to your submission so folks can read more about what you did before voting.

    4. Each member is limited to 1 entry.
    -------------------------------------------------

    Voting/Judging:

The winners will be selected by a combination of results from member voting and a judging panel.

    1. Member Voting - All entries will be put in to a poll with voting opened for approximately 5 days. I'm shooting for Monday, April 13th through Friday, April 17th. I'll extend as necessary. The results of the poll will be ranked in order, with 1st place getting 10 points, 2nd getting 9 points, and so on through 5th place, with 6th through last place gettin 5 points. This will be worth 60% of the final score. The winner of this is guaranteed a prize.

Note: The forum's polling options limits me to 20 choices. Currently, the plan will be to limit this to 20 submissions. If there are more and we can come up with a reasonable workaround, I will try to implement it.

    2. Judging Panel - I, along with the distinguished judging panel of @Misplaced Nebraskan and @Kanyon71, will privately score all of the dishes on a scale of 1-10, rounding to as many decimal places as we feel like. We'll be looking for things like how appetizing the dish sounds, the creativity that went in to it, how appealing the picture is, and anything else that makes us want to score an entry high, including bribes (only joking?). This will be worth 40% of the final score. The winner of this is guaranteed a prize.

Does this scoring system make sense? Hell if I know. I think it does, but if a reasonable idea for a tweak comes along (either from your suggestion or something I think of), then I reserve the right to change this up until voting opens.
    -------------------------------------------------

    Winners/Prizes:

    1. First place will go to the entry with the highest overall score. If the winner of the member voting doesn't finish top 2 overall, they will be granted second place, otherwise second place goes to the entry with the second highest overall score. If the winner of the judging panel doesn't finish in the top 3 overall, they will be granted third place, otherwise third place goes to the entry with the third highest overall score.

    2. Prizes won't be huge and are TBD, but on behalf of Pitfaced BBQ, I'll be throwing some rub in the mix. I think I have an extra pint glass that I can put in there, too. Maybe early access to the Vampire Rub beta testing group will be included (if you know, you know). I'll figure out something. More importantly, you get bragging rights as being the King/Queen of the Quarantine Cousine TW Cook-Off, which is pretty badass, if you ask me!

Here is where I give a shameless plug to my BBQ rub side hustle - Pitfaced BBQ.

There is a group-buy discussion over right here where TW helped springboard us in to being a legit BBQ rub business. In that thread, you can see how quickly everything progressed and also see that we have a standing coupon code for TW members. Head to http://www.pitfacedbbq.com/products.html and use the coupon code 'TWRub' and get 10% off your order! I'm working my main job from home and packing rub orders as they come in. I'm shipping out at least twice a week!

Questions? Suggestions? Comments? Post them in this thread! I'd love to see a lively discussion intermingled with all of the submissions. Know some folks that would be good for this contest? Tag them and get their collective asses in here!

Have fun, stay safe, and wash your damn hands.

Whew last week realized I had nothing in the house to drink. Well at least with alcohol in it. So went to the liquor store and they had signs out front that said No Entry customer pickup only. So called them in a panic and they asked what I wanted.

Huh?! Hell I usually walk around until I see something that talks to me. And realized they may close for awhile so did the only thing that came to mind.

    Jameson pp.jpg

Think I need a bigger pellet pooper. Or smaller bottle of something a bit better, not that there is anything wrong with Jameson, first that came to my mind though. And the biggest bottle you got LOL.

Truth be told I'm no cook and i literally cook basic stuff. I'm trying to go out of my comfort zone with stuff like this. Therefore I do try to follow fellow TW members stuff in the other crock pot thread...lol

Crock pot, instant pot, dutch oven yeah you can make a mess of things playing around sometimes on your own until you get experience with basic cooking. Sometimes. Consider it an opportunity.

Seriously a bad cook on the grill or smoker is kind of like bad sex, hard to find. It exists don't get me wrong. Both of them LOL. Too much smoke or too much heat too long are the main killers. But you will do OK, just go for it and jump in, the water is fine  And if you have any questions every single person on the Food Smokers and Smoking Tips/Tricks/Techniques thread will be more than willing to help you just ask.

Lot of web sites out there dedicated to smoking meat but IMO the best is right here and some of the best cooks I know but never met are on here. On a truck forum, who would have ever thought that. But it is a Tacoma truck forum and that must be what makes the difference..
