Maybe I should have mentioned but I have a aFe CAI and the trd exhaust (not exactly a catback but not willing to do anything about that right now). I'm mainly focused on the stuff I can do under the hood that is pretty straight forward and low risk for making the system more efficient or effective.

I have a AFM gauge and a oil press/temp gauge but I've put them up for sale in the classifieds since I don't intend to go crazy with mods on the SC.

maybe a quickchange s/c hub and a smaller pulley?
at 2.7 you need to upgrade the fuel pump. the stock pump is barely adequate without a s/c as is. URD makes a good one, and the filter is outside the tank for easy service:thumbsup:

Like it. Mr Coupe hooked me up a long time back. Love the look of that cover.

Did you braid those coolant lines yourself? They look really sharp like that.

Really nice. From the look of those finishers they have the clamp built-in so you swap them from the clamps that are on there, correct? I'll need to do this when I swap the coolant I guess.

almost 90k. 2nd owner but according to Toyota service the S/C was put on around 18k. Still plenty of life left but if it's gonna be off for exhaust cam gears I may as well overhaul it.

Absolutely.. you will need HPT to run the larger tube. Of course if you are at the point where you want to run a larger tube over 3" anyways then your power adder mods should already be topping out the MAF as it is.

I would not do the FPR mod unless you are running the OEM fuel pump and running a smaller pulley than a 3.0. if you are planning on modding pulley sizes a fuel pump should be first on your list anyways.

I just diagnosed another garbage fuel pump on a 2015 Tacoma with 130K. It overheated the injectors and took them with it as well. That was NA. Let's not get into the reasons why you SHOULDN'T upgrade your pump when boosted and even contemplating mods.

The restrictor jet is a good free mod you can do which is always reversible if you don't like the way things pep up. Give it a whirl!

Sure, the TRD exhaust is definitely a catback. Intake and exhaust. You got your bases covered. Do the jet mod and I think you'll be plenty happy. :)

I was actually looking at my lines and thinking I should do the same to them not too long ago myself.

Awesome! I am going to pick a roll of this up. I definitely could use this! Thank you for linking that over! You find all the good stuff don't you, first Corolla steering wheels, now this. Hahaha. There are so many rub points on this kit and this braided stuff helps prevent chaffing even further.

. Maintenance makes these engines last. Get the Valve cover seals if thats not already on your list. Spark Plugs, Oil Change, topping off power steering fluids, brake fluids, etc.

I had to put my exhaust cams on a Bench Vise to break the 17mm bolt with a breaker bar. 2 battery operated impacts and a pneumatic one. No joy. Make sure you install them with "FRONT" facing out.

    Thanks for all this.

BTW, I do still have the OEM fuel pump and the OEM pulley. I had plans to make changes but I'm backing off any big changes; theoretically going for reliability over minor performance improvements since its basically a camping rig now. Easy reversible changes are about all I have the stomach for with the SC these days.

My personal findings, there is nothing reliable about the OEM pump. If you want to do yourself any favors, at least do the pump upgrade and retrofit. Your fuel system will love you for the rest of your trucks running life. Assuming you get a good one. Lol.

I don't blame you. I am backing off modding and getting to the point where I want to be able to pass smog without any bitching from the tech because "oh this is tampered" or "oh this is modified." If I do mod I want it to be easily reversible and not mods that require dismantling half of the engine to do so.

And this right here is why I hesitated to change out the fuel pump, LOL. I sold off my URD upgrade kit with the Walbro 255 because as far as I can tell from the comments in various threads these replacement pumps are just as likely to fail as the OEM.

Perhaps its the wrong impression but I bought the upgrade kit back in 2014 and never got around to the install. I won't point to any particular thread because I haven't looked into it in a few years. It was more an impression I was left with and its one of the reasons I never made time for the install. Just looking now and the online reviews on the replacement pump I had seem to have more than a few failed units.

For me, this pump is not something I will replace unless it fails as I don't crave the performance jump enough for the work needed to swap it out, possibly twice. This is why I asked about the simple swap mods listed in the OP. I'd love to do a simple tweak or two if they offer small performance boosts or efficiency gains but I'm just not into tuning this setup like I expected to be when I bought the pump kit....and the gauges - which are still for sale in the classifieds. ;)

The stronger pump would be an added benefit. I’m fairly certain you’ll get that overwhelming response from everybody here. Even though my truck is decently modified, I’m very conservative in how I went about it all. I wanted added performance but nothing too crazy and reliability was and still is my main concern. To this day I haven’t had a single issue with my setup......but yes, do the pump with the external filter upgrade from URD.
