Argh. We use MS Teams, and apparently that feature isn't available to everyone yet. Someone on twitter had himself in Tom Cruise's F-14 from Top Gun last week, it was so perfect.

My work is looking into it, they will be saving a ton of money on offices for people that really dont even need to see another human. Im a web programmer, so you could put me in a closet as long as it has internet I can work.

I really hope we learn some good lessons from this. We have the ability to be so much more efficient with our time and resources than we usually are, but "thats the way we've always done it" has kinda kept that progress limited.

I have a feeling that things are going to change into 2 groups. Delivery service and work from home. Traffic and pollution will drop, people will be happier, and we will still be getting it done.

Not so easy with North Dakota's current crappy weather, kids in school, one of which has health problems, a wife in health care and a job that deems you just necessary enough (thankfully!) to allow you to work from home when no one else in the building is.

Best for me to just ride this one out for the time being!

I've still been going to work every day but this week I believe we're getting cut to three days, but yes traffic is lighter on the upside.

I'm curious how schools will change. Online learning seems to be a mixed bag, and social interaction is super important. But, ya never know what lessons they might take from this.

Yeah, my son (5) is not doing great with the online learning, my daughter (7) is doing great though. My son doesnt like cameras or using the microphone, so that is a big hurdle we are trying to get past. When I am there with him he does well, but I cant be there the whole time as I have work of my own to do.

I think k-8 would be best in classes, 9-12 could do online learning, but the 9-12 would have to step up their being responsible and actually do the work.

I'm thinking in the next 20+ years schools will phase out. Seems as though there's really no purpose for students to 'go' to class, aside from the social aspect. As long as there is a school tax revenue generated (doubt that will change), it can all be done from home. With some exceptions.

The problem many face is being home with the kids while they are doing school from home. My neighbors both still have to work, they have 3 kids that they have to bring with to the office. Many rely on school as a daycare for half the year.

9-12th grade can stay at home alone, before that they should be in a class (my own personal opinion)

I could see moving to a situation where kids work from home a few days a week. Odd grades are in M,W,F one week, then T, TH the next, while even grades are the opposite. Schools could be half the size, they could still do in-person activites, but it would cost less (maybe).

I agree that it would be tough on a lot of families, and I don't think it would necessarily be a good thing, but...20 years ago folks were not predicting that malls would close at such an alarming rate due to online sales. Hell, you can now buy a car and never walk into a dealership (I sound so old). I just think it's possible that in the not too distant future, school buildings could be a thing of the past.

I agree that it could eventually work. Would require a huge change in our general structure, but I feel like this virus is forcing evolution on that.

Self employed but losing business fast, I filled up today for $17 (half a tank) at Costco, $1.60 a gallon and no lines, truly amazing.

Working from home here. I have not needed to buy fuel in like a month being on stay at home orders I only go out to the grocery store once a week. I'm probably getting 3 weeks to a gallon now. I'm glad I can be safe and work at home and not need to use my emergency savings but it there if I need it.

Mine probably hasn't gone 30 miles in the past 3 weeks, and I normally drive a couple hundred a week. I do miss driving it.

Really looking forward to the first real drive after all this is over.

I'm in the danger zone age wise, so my outside the house travels are very limited to Dr appointments and an occasional grocery store pick up. But, I do get in the truck every afternoon and drive it around the neighborhood, through the park and back home. I figure the virus will have to chase me and I get cabin fever very quickly. I'm constantly amazed at the people just walking around like nothing's different.
