I absolutely know Gary. That man taught me a lot. Funny story. I was a drummer in my teens playing in a band called Purple Monkey Dishwashers and I had to sell my drum kit to rebuild my xfer case in my 76. Gary was not happy I had to sell my drumkit to do it but he knew I loved the cruiser because of it. Me being Russian and him being Serbian we have a lot in common. Eventually the FJ62 will be getting a 5 speed. Gary will do it. He is a legend that will never be replaced. You should pick up another 40. Right now they are still obtainable but won't be in 10 years. You won't regret it.

 

Actually it's not a funny story. Kind of sucks. But that's how you learn!

 

Gary replaced the 1F in the 67 while I was on a ship. He put in a 1.5F. Good dude. Busy dude. Known him for many many years. He helped me on the 67 rebuild/resto/mod. I sold an 88 turbo RX7 to pay for that engine. Super good dude. I had a 78 a few years back that was a basket case and had to pass along to someone else with a bigger garage and more time than me. Read: My wife made me sell it.

So when I had my 67 and the 69 I had a similar problem. Although I was younger by 20years it still hurt like hell. Don't ever get in a hurry and run then jump in. The stock door lack striker plate will bruise the shit out of your lower back.

 

This happens on the dash of my Tacoma after my wife moves the seat forward to drive it and afterwards I jump in unawares...

I have a mark still on left knee actually but I vacuumed the truck out and moved it forward. I sat in the driver's seat and almost cried. I also thought I pissed myself. It just hit the right spot.
