    Good day all,

yesterday my wife was driving to work when our 2018 Tacoma V6 6sp stalled out on her. It is now not turning over and the centre display is cycling through “drive-start control malfunction”, “brake over ride malfunction”, “check vehicle stability control” “check brake system” and “pre-collision system malfunction”.

We live very remote and unfortunately do not have access to a dealership.

So far I have towed and parked it in a heated garage.

Curious what are people’s thoughts and suggestions.

    Thanks!

I’m not going to much help here as I am not a mechanic but I would disconnect the battery, cycle your headlights to drain the rest of the charge out of the system or let it rest an hour and then reconnect and see if the reading changed. It could be as simple as a computer glitch. It could also be as simple as your safety sensors need to be wiped of any dirt that could be interfering. Past that, I’d schedule a long trip to the dealer.

Is your truck on the recall list ?
The subject vehicles are equipped with a low-pressure fuel pump which may stop operating. If this were to occur, warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel, and the engine may run rough. This may result in a vehicle stall, and the vehicle may be unable to be restarted. If a vehicle stall occurs while driving at higher speeds, this could increase the risk of a crash.

I was thinking this after I punched in my VIN on Toyota’s website. I am on the list for a fuel pump. I am going to be calling Toyota tomorrow to see what can be done. Taking it to a dealership is likely not an option as it is a fly in location only. I believe there are two mechanics somewhere here who might be able to do warranty work.

I reached out to Toyota Canada and they said that I can only use the warranty coverage at a dealership. It appears I’ll be having to fix this issue myself or pay out of pocket.

Is that a canadian ruling? In ‘merica, if you’re too remote you can absolutely have another shop do the work and submit the warranty claim. It’s not your fault they won’t tow it to the dealership to honor their warranty

I got my recall notice from Toyota today. I particularly like the statement: "We are currently preparing the remedy. We will notify you again when the remedy is available". In the meantime if your truck fails to start, stalls in the middle of the freeway, or worse miles from a trailhead, "...please contact your local authorized Toyota dealer who will arrange for vehicle pick-up." I'm a geologist often miles into very rough trails working (why I bought a Tacoma), and I can't imagine Toyota paying to haul it out over a rough low-range only trail. We'll see.

Determined that my vehicle has a faulty fuel pump. The fuse continues to break every time it gets replaced. The local mechanic cannot fix the pump until Toyota releases an action for the recall. In the meantime my 2018 Toyota Tacoma has to remain parked as it has been for the past three months. This is upsetting as we near winter, I am unsure what my wife will do for transportation to work as it gets to -50 Celsius here and she cannot walk that. I am glad the truck I purchased gets to be parked in front of my house until Toyota addresses the recall.

I am in the same boat. I spoke to Toyota three months ago and they insist for me to bring the truck to my “local dealership”. Well, that dealership costs 4k to ship the truck to via sea lift in the summer. The mechanic here is completely willing to fix it under my warranty, but Toyota won’t provide an estimation covered and a fix for the issue.

Sir, this is absolutely not right. Toyota needs to take care of you. This is just wrong. I am sorry this is happening to you.

I am going to try and call them tomorrow and see what can happen. I am not hopeful though, the last rep I spoke to three months ago was not helpful one bit. I’ll try and escalate it up the chain. I am beyond frustrated as I have happily purchased Toyota’s in the past and pay that Toyota tax to have a positive ownership experience. Unfortunately right now with the Tacoma, it has been frustrating.

Many others have been receiving rentals for the entire duration their truck is dead until the recall comes in. On Toyota’s dime.
Were i you, I would /demand/ a rental, as they sold you a defective vehicle, that you are likely still paying for as it sits, inoperable.

I’ll absolutely try. I just looked up car rentals in my community and there is only one company that rents vehicles out at the rate of $220 CAD a day. Be great if Toyota had to eat that until they find a better solution for these fuel pumps haha.

The Toyota dealership should have rentals. I was loaned a rental by Toyota when my truck was gone on recall over 3 months.
