kicker key in a 2020 with 8" entune?

So after searching for these connectors it seems pretty apparent they don't exist or not easily available. As much as it pains me to do this I think I am going to cut the factory speaker harness and wire in a male and female 1761 harness on each end and the I can make my own T harness to plug in line. Not the best solution but its what I got.

 

I think (but I can’t say for sure) that only the 8” premium is the 70-1765 connectors. Other installers I’ve spoken with have confirmed they have seen the standard Toyota harness on 2020’s as well, so my best guess is that the non-premium radios use the

70-1761 harness. Easiest way to tell is to just pull the radio and look.

 

I just checked my sr5 non premium 8" screen (wow so easy to get to the stereo) and it has the new plug type. I think what I am going to do is repin some 1761 connectos to just have the 8 speaker wires and solder a male end the the truck side and a female end to the stereo side plug and then get a second set of plugs to make a t harness for my amp.

What's the best place to get constant and switched power. Probably just run a wire to the battery I guess and use a relay for the switched power and amp turn on. I'm also going to add a ds18 5 channel low level converter before the amp.

And here is my ds18 v5hl. The lc7i is a little out of my budget right now and not a crazy audio guy. Just want a little bump.

then use 1 or 2 of these with it. you really just need one. But 2 just in case. Sometimes are finicky.

 

Took truck in for 5k maintenance. I had one of the service managers listen to the almost no sound from the back. Their response was..1 all Toyotas aren't setup for quality rear sound or output, only a slight amount of muffled bass. They did acknowledge my rear volume was curious. 2 because I had changed speakers, I'd have to put stock speakers back in to do any kind of trouble shooting or Toyota taking any responsibility for it.
I've heard that about after market changes and the dealers.
So I decided to rethink the amp input and output regarding signal from head unit. The kicker key has a fader dip switch that allows one set of inputs. I only attached the front from the hu. The rear is still not as crisp and defined as the front, but the output increased and I can hear highs from them. I'm way more pleased with this setup. Hu set to almost flat with kicker dsp ON, improved sound to my ears quite a bit.

 

Just wired up my Kicker Key. Has problems.
Power led on , PRT. Led is off. No sound amplification
High screeching static at high volume.
Good power and ground.
Any ideas?

Okay I got the high-pitched screeching to go away from the front speakers. I had to disconnect the RCA pigtails that I had going to a sub. Strangely that immediately solves that problem.
I adjusted the gains on front and rear and it does sound a lot better. But I cannot get the auto-tune equalizer to work but still sounds good.

Yep, the add a sub harness from taco tunes for the 2020, crutchfield ck12 cables, soldering iron, heat shrink etc..

You can select Toyota 2020 now.

 

The 2018+ Camry add a sub is $40 right now. So much cheaper than that, but looks like the add a sub is $35 on the Tacoma.

 

Just double checking now that I have all the wiring. Headunit->TT Male wire harness -> Key inputs. Key outputs -> TT Female wire harness -> original harness in back of headunit. Then add the small amp kit or could I use an add a fuse in an open fuse location?

 

You’re description is correct. I didn’t buy an amp kit though. I just bought about 10’ of 14 gauge red wire and a couple feet of 14 gauge black. I put the amp under my passenger seat for better air flow and grounded tot he bolt under the front of the seat. The amp comes with an inline fuse so I just ran it directly to the battery

 

Which Taco Toons harness is the one we need for the 2020 non jbl? I see both the “add a sub” and the “add an amp” listed above in this thread. It appears the amp harness is a bundle and twice the cost.

 

Add a sub if all you are doing is adding the key amp close by the HU. You cut it in half and solder the two now separated harnesses to the two harnesses that come with the key.
