Doesn't anyone make a hood strut kit that will bolt on? Yes I have seen the Redline hood struts, but I'm a much bigger fan of bolt on stuff instead of having to drill holes and use rivets of all things. There are empty threaded holes in the engine bay sides of the front fenders, and open holes in the bottom of the hood so I would think somebody could come up with something nice.

Yes I hate rivets. Its not a question of not being able to install them or scared to, etc. I've been working on vehicles my whole life. I would much rather have something that bolts in place instead of drilling holes whenever possible. I will probably be keeping this truck for a long time and want to keep everything as nice as possible. The search continues.

Redline Tuning - they have not budged one bit. I love opening the hood with one finger!

Sometimes it makes far more sense to use rivets instead of bolts in some applications. And this is one of them. Why try and re-invent the wheel, when you have a quality product that is easily installed, and found to be working successfully, on thousands of vehicles. It's so nice for my hood to open so effortlessly

Sokietech has a no drill hood strut kit for our Tacomas, no clue on the quality, but if I had the choice, I would rather have a no drill option.

A company called Spiker also makes them for the Tacoma. I believe they come with a 5 year warranty.

I've seen the Sokies on Ebay, ~$55 for the black ones and ~85 for the carbon fiber looking ones plus ship, there are a lot of watchers on those. I see a lot of purchases for these and feedbacks but would feel more comfortable seeing comments of this brand on TW

I too would rather bolt on than use rivets and from the looks of it it uses "a" hood bracket bolt and the negative ground bolt, not real sure though but just going by the picture they supply. I would be weary if having to remove the hood 2 bolts in fear of skewing hood alignment.

I agree with you 100%, they should've made something to bolt on instead of drilling more holes etc.

i think you only need to remove the most forward facing hood bolt, leaving the rear one in place. Shouldn't mess with the alignment.

I wonder if the strut for redline will fit the sokies hardware once it needs replacement (?)

I don't think they will. Found out today that the Sokietech hood struts come with 2 different lengths. The passenger one is a little longer as the driver strut as the lower mounting point is farther out from the hood hinge on the passenger side.

Do you really open your hood often enough to justify needing struts? I can think of better ways to spend $100
