I'll bet you get to see cool places that not many get to see.
Back in the mid 90's a couple friends and I were exploring along the Gila Mtns when we came upon a bombing range sign, and yes, we did not proceed. That's the area that I was referring to.

So this area looks promising, it was first mined by Mexicans in the early 1800’s. I made this map for my next outing. An old California geology report said that there were about 50 arrastras seen around the mines and prospects when the guy went out to make the report, it’s much like the other ones I posted about earlier wirh the same type of granite and mineralized quartz vein material. I was in the lower right area and on BLM (yellow), but will be in the upper left area next where the arrastras were.

    :redxfall:

As for the map itself, Ive been using ArcMap for making these (educational discount version). It is using a property management layer, USGS topo layer and USGS mine and prospect layer. I know there are other programs like OnXMap that do this too, not free though...

Be careful posting your "prospects" in an on-line forum. Unscrupulous prospectors may swoop in on your turf! :anonymous::anonymous:

Say... where is the turn off for the Gavilan Plateau?? :D

It’s public enough, good advice though. I fixed the map. Actually, I would welcome detectorists to go ahead of me to pick up all the bullets and leave the good stuff so I have clean areas to work with;) JK...

If anyone here in So Cal/ Riverside Co is really interested in going, PM me - maybe we can figure out a good time to go and help each other out.

Hey boy, you know what I’m gonna tell you, right son? Well, here’s what. You don’t know schist for granite, boy! There ain't no schist over there boy, its all pyrite and galena where the gold’s at over there! You’ve got to do your homework and look it up yourself, boy! But you didn’t know that until I told told you, right son? Now don’t be going over there all by yourself son, cause ‘ol Slim is watching over the place and I got the map to it and you don’t, see boy?! :quickdraw:

I’ll try to get some good photos, hopefully we’ll get to see some of those supposed arrasters.

Ugh, roads are too wet - we’ve had constant rain since yesterday. Fun prospecting trip will have to wait.:pout:

In the meantime, I’m going to test out how good my detector works on various rocks by sticking tiny little pieces of aluminum foil to them and turning them upside down. Also bury some in my yard along with some nickels (thanks Hobbs for that idea). I’ll maybe even make a video and post it on the YouTuber about it. I’ll be famous!:humble:

Testing your machine is a great idea! It "tunes" you ears and increases familiarity with your detector.

It's an old camp we found, due to the location and lack of mines in the area we are thinking it was a logging camp.
