    So what is the purpose? To protect the connection or does it allow the camera to be used without the tailgate? Thanks for the response

    Step 1: unplug camera and remove tailgate
    Step 2: plug these things into the now exposed harnesses
    Step 3: your harness connectors are now protected from the evils of the environment
