this. for something that tiny, I clean it/sand it, rust inhibitor then touch up paint. I'd never just paint over rust.

First off, never ‘just paint over rust’, it will always look worse in the long run.....

For stone chips, I always use a small Dremel with a tiny, pointy tip to remove 100% of the rust. Then acid metal prep it, prime it and then paint (nail polish works too)
I also used this method once on a black Honda CRX I bought to flip and someone key’d the hood. I needed to wet sand and polish the area afterwards but it still looked great.

BTW- Sometimes when using spray paint or primer, it’s easier to spray it on a piece of cardboard and use a small, kids paintbrush to dab in the wet paint puddle and then touch up the chip....

That’s a thicker tip than I was expecting. It’s almost better to use the angled tip of the touchup pen (depending on size of repair of course). this will work for more of a pea size repair but not so much smaller.

I bought these for replacement of the touchup brushes for more accuracy

once again, OP is in SoCal. I sanded my 84 mustang down for a repaint and it had a crap ton of metal showing from chips and scratches. I was shocked that all of it was just surface rust. We are fortunate here with a pretty dry climate.

If we were back east, comments like this are dead on. I’ve seen both

When I first got it, I though the paint was supposed to soak up into that tip like a marker... once that failed to happen I realized it was for sanding the area you want to paint. Makes for a nice finish because you can knock down the high edges of the paint, then fill it in with the color.
