What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Put an AAL in my Dakars. It gave me about 3". Hoping it settles a bit!

That's a lot of lift for a single AAL, it'll come down though

 

Yeah, mine was jacked for a few weeks but has settled back down to lower than the front end again

 

I just got a set for my Dakars, I wasn't expecting that muck lift.

 

Nice truck, mines the same as yours but different. How do you like your dakars? Leaf pack is my next mod

 

I've had them for a few years now and they have been great. I didn't have the camper when I first put them on but with the camper, a couple of bikes on the back and camping gear, I quickly realized I needed them.

Your truck looks great! Love the Flippac.

 

Yeah, I'll see how much it settles over the next few weeks. A 4cyl reg cab is definitely lighter than your truck too so you will probably see slightly less lift than this.

 

Yeah disappointed in my Dakars. Going to get bags as an interim solution.

It's a wildernest.

 

I don't have any pictures of the ants, but I have ants all up in my truck. I had seen them crawling around the hood for awhile, but nowhere else.

Long story. My truck sat for two month or so at the end of last summer, which lead to a bunch of problems, the latest is the ants. There's no food in my truck other than maybe some crumbs.

I added compressor which meant I needed to move my aux fuse box, which made me want to re do all my wiring. I pulled the lower dash to tuck it up a bit better and I found that the carpet was wet under my floor mats. So out came the carpet, and wouldn't you know the ants were all up in my wiring running along the door. I put some traps out while waiting for the carpet to dry. Well next thing was fix my wiring to the turn signals, and hey wouldn't ya know, when I pulled the loom off out came a swarm of ants! Well i pulled all that wiring out of the loom all the way to the fuse box and mixed up some dish soap and water and sprayed it everywhere. Killed the ants I could see. Put out more traps and some borax, it's been a few days and I don't see any more ants. What should've taken a couple days had now been a week....

 

Right on, thanks. Seem like quite a rare cap. Id be interested to see anyone who's attempted to build their own.

As it sits today with the AAL in for ~6 months along with the Vagabond.
Full size spare under the bed, hitch, 50lb bike rack, fridge and bag of tools inside - no other cargo.

Yea Dakars are great if you don't carry much more than the stock capacity but if you do, they sag pretty bad. Even with an AAL mine couldn't handle an RTT and full bed of gear

 

I love the design. It's old and heavy though. I'd love to see it revamped. GFC is close but the Wildernest is still bigger inside i believe because it opens to the side.

 

It is quite a bit roomier. There's pluses and minuses to both.

Really what need is for @Reh5108 to make his go fast nest. Like a wildernest tent on a go fast frame.

 

The Wildernest and Flippac have one thing going for it: vast interior space. This is because the overhang/bed area is not shared at all with the truck bed floorspace.

Both the GFC/Vagabond/AluCab "interfere" with the truck bed floorspace when you want to have the bed fully deployed - the GFC has NO accessible truck bed space while the Vagabond has something like 20". I think the Alucab is like the GFC where you can't access the truck bed when the sleeping platform is lowered.

Both the Wildernest and Flippac suffer greatly from the outdated (yet simple) materials and construction. The tents are not 4 season or waterproof. They flap in the wind too much. And more.

 

@lightnfast has a restored unit for sale in PDX. I really want it but currently in the process of buying a house and can't justify spending more $ right now. Ad seen here...
