How much sound deadening and proofing material do I need?

Doing a complete sound system upgrade. How much material do I need so things don't rattle and to keep exterior sounds coming in? I want to do all four doors and the back wall. I know I need need two different kinds of material to achieve what I want. Mainly concerned with how many square feet to buy of each.

18 sq feet do the doors inside and out, I dont have a number yet for the floor, but the back wall took 4 sheets or noico (each sheet is 2sq feet) for the wall up to the underseat storage bins

Exactly... $40-50 bucks for a small creature comfort for good sound. I just did the doors and people piss that off for a gas can here.

I dont have any of the back wall, but this is what I have for when I did the doors. I didnt really get many pictures because its pretty boring.

 

I'm currently doing mine but I'm apprehensive about removing the plastic sheet. Am I being crazy, should I just peel it off?

 

Its easy to pull off and put back on if you want to. I left mine off, there are foam plugs that cover the big holes anyways.

 

Around the speaker and behind. No pic but did the entire flat space inside the door about half way up both front and rear with one $35 box. That foam is Stinger Road Kill kit.

 

I also did parts of the door panel itself, I put strips on any place there is a plastic weld, I also put some around the speaker area of the panel to prevent the panel from vibrating too much.

The approximate sqft of your Tacoma is as follows:
Floor 35-40 sqft
Doors are a total of 24-28 sqft
Back Wall 12-15 sqft
Ceiling 25-30 sqft

The advice I received was to also get some material on the crash bars inside the doors, as they resonate a lot. I've done my doors, and floor and back panel. Headliner is next.

What does the foam do around the speaker?

 

It will absorb some of that back wave and direct the bass forward. Helps the sound not disperse outward so much. Is anyone dying for not having it... no. Ever little bit helps IMO
