The last dealer that did an oil change on my truck used an impact wrench to put mine on. I had to use an impact wrench to get mine off. Just a warning if you have trouble.

I would not suggest an impact to remove, ever. If it is over torqued then use a breaker bar and a snipe. The constant pressure is less likely to damage the housing versus the constant impacts that will cause damage.

I have the same oil filter tool for my 2017 Tacoma SR5 v-6 3.5l. Works great!! This design allows you to use a 3/6 drive or a box wrench to remove the plastic filter body. Honestly, I'm glad I purchased this tool and do all my oil changes my self. The local dealer over tightened the drain plug and the oil filter canister. Now I do the work and make sure everything is torques to specs. My brother also has this tool and uses it on his 2015 4-Runner... He also likes it.

I just bought a tool from my local parts store. (Canadian Tire). It was $9.99 and does the job.

MotivX makes a drain tool too. Way better than those plastic things that come with the filters.

Motivx one is the best designed for our filter housings.

Also a good time to order the factory Aluminum filter housing instead of the cheap plastic one these trucks came with.

Is there a reliable place online to order true OEM oil filters or is it best to get them directly from your local dealership?

I’ll second this, if you are doing your own oil changes, just pay the $20 and get the metal housing. So much higher quality and don’t have to worry as much about rounding off the plastic corners.
