Also try the boot stretch mod. Only need to stretch it 3/4”

Okay, thank you for all the responses. I think I'm going to move forward with rebooting since my oem axles are still good. And then I'll go ahead and try the diff drop.
I'll be getting https://www.cvjreman.com/product/bootr08/ as it seems they have higher quality boots (correct if wrong) as it feels like SDHQ might not be as equal? Don't mean to make that sound bad.
If I'm doing this I'd like to use best boots for my budget.

While both axles will be rebooted, is there something I should change with the outer boots? Or leave as is if they aren't showing wear?

Negative on cvj “high angle boot”. Both of mine tore in under a year. I called them up and the lady told me there is no warranty on them because they are “offroad boots”.

So I ended up getting two used axles from eBay ($75 each with low miles) and rebooting them with sdhq boots. Now I have 2 more spares waiting.

Did you end up doing the stretching mod for them? Looks like sdhq is like OE

I believe cvj did the mod. Don’t quote me on that. Their red high angle boot have twice as many fins and they did not rub onto each other. That’s why I was surprise when they both split open in less than a year.
Sdhq is like OE but supposably stronger.

Does anyone have a parts list on the diff drop? I have some bushings but would like to attempt to make it myself.

This video has an entertaining way of getting the CV out of the front dif on a Tacoma. Around 8 min into the video.

    https://youtu.be/cVMuu5qJqVM

This video is probably a bit more practical. Around 14 min into video.

    https://youtu.be/m9W31KGy6k0

Both show the complete steps for getting a CV completely out.

I've watched a bunch of video and have no doubt it won't take long to remove and replace. Deciding to go with a NAPA cv as I checked mine and the damn thing is clicking on turns:(

Occasionally the cv axle C clips can make removal easier said than done. Plan yourself just extra “just Incase” time when doing the job.

The first video is the best way to get the cv out of the diff. I do this method every single time.

The biggest pain in replacing the boots is the boot clamp. If you dont have the tool, it will take effort. I cut a lenghwise slit through a bolt with a dremel and drilled a hole through 3" of 1/2 conduit and smashed one end. Then closed the clamp and fed the end through the smashed end of the pipe and the slit in the bolt. Then tighten with a socket which pulls the clamp tight and use a center punch to stop the clamp. That was my late night fix to get one tight. Used that tool a few times since.

Torn CV boots are like death and taxes if you're going to lift your Tacoma. Doesn't matter if you do the diff drop and the boot stretch with the high angle ones from whoever. It's going to happen.

I agree. I've had to replace cv axles at 40k miles on both sides so I did the boot slide mod with the SDHQ boots. It is a time consuming PITA and they both only lasted 9 months and I only have a 3 inch lift. I probably shouldn't have done the boot slide mod with the SDHQ because it probably caused it to wear prematurely. I just installed 2 of the https://www.cvjreman.com/product/bootr08/ axles and I really hope they last but it appears they didn't last very long for some people. The inner boots seems to be far superior to the SDHQ boot.

They have been great so far, they are far superior!

I see an issue. The top right seal, not sure if it’s called that, is bent. Just like how mine came. Had to pull the one off my old axle to replace it.
