Hey everyone, this is my first post to TW.

I recently purchased my first tacoma, a 2015 access cab from the used Servco dealership in Hawaii. I Have about 65k miles and i also got a warranty till 120k. The warranty was super expensive and I just found out they want to charge $120 every time I take it in to “check” if parts need to be replaced and then charge another $100 for a deductible.. being a $220 charge any time something needs to be replaced, should i still keep this warranty? I try to take good care of my vehicles and I’m not sure if a $2500 warranty is still worth it, or mainly if I will run into any issues worth it by 120k.

However, I was also checking underneath the truck today when I discovered something leaky and grimey looking under the engine. I’m not sure what this is but I posted pics below. Any help would be super appreciated.

am i right in thinking it's leaking from the bottom right corner of the timing cover? If it is, mine has a real slow leak about there too, it's slow enough that i'm not really losing enough oil from there to matter much, just enough seepage to look a little grimy. i just keep an eye on it to see if it gets worse. If you want to see how bad it is, i'd say clean it up and see how quickly the oil reaccumulates.
I figure it's just the gasket or sealant leaking and the only real fix is to pull the timing cover and replace the gasket, which is not much in parts, but a fair amount of work. so if that falls under warranty and you want to get it dealt with, i'd say $220 is a bargain. Otherwise if it's not under warranty and isn't a significant oil loss, i personally would leave it alone and just monitor it until you have to or want to deal with it. just my 2 cents

its a super crappy warranty! “Ally major guard” I was thinking about keeping it but im not allowed to do any significant modifications with the warranty (i really wanted new headers)

Hey, OP, congrats on your truck!

I would get out of that warranty. I’d have the truck thoroughly gone-over prior to that, but if everything checks out and it’s good to go, I would drop that over priced piece of paper like a bad habit.

It’s possible some issue could come up, as crap happens, but the odds of that are minimal. All of this is just my opinion, of course. You do what you can afford and what gives you the most piece of mind.

    Headers are worth it.

    Still thinking about it.
When I bought mine I did it with the confidence that I'm buying the vehicle that is most likely to NOT need an aftermarket warranty. Mine is also a 2015. If you can get your money back..I would! That $2500 might serve you well in other ways. Even if it's just in the bank in case you need a repair. Do your basic services and drive on, buddy.

Scrap the warranty. I’d be shocked if you ever came anywhere close to ever needing $2500 in repairs

Thanks for the feedback! I build up the courage to cancel the warranty. I realized I wont be able to leave it stock for 60k more miles anyway and I’d really like to be able to preform my own repairs and with all the info on Tacomas I feel like this is the way to go!
