Recently traded in my 08 off-road for a 2020 off-road and I'm curious if I can some how get my 08's classic undercover hard top to fit on my 2020? I bought a cab bed rail (not specifically for this) and I know that was something that was missing between the models. Even with the rail would it even fit?

Undercover Classic one piece is not available for a 3rd gen Tacoma, so your 2008 model may not fit on a 2020

Right. What I was wondering is if the only reason it's not compatible was because the mount for the cover attaches to the cab bed rail and the 2020 doesn't have a cab bed rail? The early model rail fits on the 2020. There is a minor difference in bed size from what I've read but it's like half an inch. Does anybody have any input on if this would be a good idea to try or why this wouldn't work? I really like the classic cover because it's flat and rugged. Not really a fan of tri folds (unless someone has some compelling argument for why it's better than a hard top).
