The Challenge: Build a dog platform for the back seat of my 2015 DCSB that will allow a third person to ride every now and then without having to completely remove said platform.

    My improvised work bench.

    IMG_20200407_135614.jpg

I started by measuring the length and width of the back seat and made a special note of where the 60/40 split is located. I cut a piece of 3/4-inch plywood the size of the seat then cut it 60/40 so the cut lined up with the split in the seat. I connected the two pieces with a 12-inch piano hinge.

This allowed the 40 side to lift up and fold over to the 60 side.

I probably could have gotten away with just the board, but I wanted it to be close to level and to have reinforcements due to the split. I cut up a 2X3 board to lift up the trailing end, then cut the rest of the 2X3 into four 18-inch wedges.

Then glued, screwed and clamped for overnight.

The next morning the clamps came off and it was time to start on the carpeting.

The carpeting was glued on using Contact Cement. Around the edges I additionally used upholstery screws to keep those edges from peeling off.

    And Voila!

    Now the fitting and testing.

    IMG_20200411_183036.jpg

    Works as intended!

    Final Approval. Sebastian likes it.

Really cool build and might have to do this for my dog!
