At the risk of sounding utterly insane I've gotta ask has anyone else had this issue...

Whenever I close the rear passenger side door on my Double Cab the door sounds noticeably different than the other 3. It sounds like closing the door on a base model economy car (sounds hollow with a slight "ping"), and the other 3 close with a nice solid "thud".

To me it seems almost like they forgot the sound deadening in the door. Whenever my girlfriend closes the door she looks at me and says "sorry I didn't mean to slam it" which I always remind her that door always sounds weird if you close it with a little force.

I've got absolutely no idea how to explain this to the dealer without sounding like a complete psycho.

So anyone else experience something similar?

i thought your description here in the post is pretty clear and normal... try it with the dealer. maybe they didn't seal it right.

I have your same truck only in automatic. My truck makes the same "ping" sound, its the strangest thing. It doesn't bother me to much since i'm not constantly opening that door. I may bring it up at my next service interval though...

Mine too. I think it is the one-way vent behind the cab you hear when shutting the back door that equalizes the cab pressure.

This might have something to do with it.
Happens on my rear door too. I hear a ping/chirp noise.
My fronts have dynamat and I can't hear it. I'll prob do the rears too.

Your explanation makes the most sense. Mine is the same, but can tap on the door and its the same sound as the rear left. Only additional sound is the flap opening and closing when I close the right rear door. Not really an "issue" for me though.

I doubt it's a sealing issue. If it didn't have the vent, the doors would be very difficult to close as the large air volume won't allow the door to close without actually slamming it. Air escapes through the path of least resistance and the right rear door is the closest to the vent. Placement of that vent was probably not ideal if that's the only one in the cab.

A good theory, but mine only does it on the passenger side and there's a vent on both sides of the cab.

To complicate the issue it doesn't always do it. I could slam the DS door till I'm blue in the face and it always sounds the same. The PS door made the "ping" noise at lunch a few times in a row, but I just slammed it a couple times and it sounded normal.

I'll see if the dealer can find anything unusual next time I'm in for service, if they don't I'll just dynamat the two rear doors myself and see if that works.

My rear doors on my DC has the same sound when I close them. Figured it had something to do with the vents that come out the back
