Purchased a 2020 4 cyl AT DC 2wd two months ago and it now has a little over 2k miles. I knew it was shifting a lot on the highway, so I decided to try a 1.7 mile uphill stretch (mid GA no mountains) several times in order to count the gear changes. With Smode capped at 5th gear and without ETC on, it downshifted into 4th 6 times and with ETC on it downshifted to 4th 7 times using speed control at 75 mph on both runs. Is this normal? If not, should I take it to the service department? If it is normal, will OV Tune fix it?

    Normal.

It will gear hunt when using cruise control at high speeds.

Thats one of the several reasons why I prefer to drive the old fashioned way- with my foot.

The problem is 75MPH. Tacoma’s are good for maybe 65MPH, then it’s all over.

But they’re so fun to wind up into triple digits! Love those high RPMs!

Edit: sorry, I’m talking about the V6. I don’t expect the I4 crushes it in the 100+ range.

You have a 2WD so you get double the horsepower and torque. Mine is wasted spinning the front diff.

    Parasitic drag, baby. Parasitic drag.

People need to leave these poor computers and transmissions alone. They’re doing the best they can.
