With 5.29 gearing, the same RPM was achieved at 65 MPH when I was at 75 MPH with stock gearing. Even with my extra heavy beast there’s plenty of power down low. But I’m still driving at 55-60 MPH in 4th (manual tranny) up steep mountains (3,000’ to 4,000’ elev) on the interstate

Been reading the 5.29 mega thread. See nothing but good outcomes out of regearing to 5.29’s. I’m about 3-4 weeks out before installing mine  Can’t wait.

Your truck is the perfect example of one that would benefit from the better gearing. Are you happy you swapped to those 5.29's?

I'll be throwing 34's on mine at some point, and live in the rocky mountains so it was a no brainer for me as well. Also have quite a bit of bolt ons and a dual battery setup, so she's started to get hefty.

Yea based off what everyone else has said it should be a nice mod with great results. Also throwing in a harrop e locker while it’s all off/open.

Yea I don't think I've read a single bad thing about the 5.29's yet other than the cost of it all.

Where'd you buy that e locker from? I'd love to get one added to the front.

I’m having a local shop get all the parts and do install. Originally sourced everything myself but just made more sense to let them just have at it.

Yes I’m very happy with the gearing. My ARB breathers though are spitting diff oil, one shop was thinking it was from the 5.29s.

This truck isn’t designed to go fast as we’ll be driving it while retired. Just be prepared for dropping 10 mph off your highway speeds, that’s the only downside

Hope you all had a Happy Taco Tuesday, peeps. The Tacoma got some PPE upfront today for the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s been an expensive Q1 for 2020, but I feel better getting the off-roading gear caught up a bit more with the overlanding gear. Thanks to God for helping me get a job in the “essential” sector (aerospace w/ gov’t defense contracts puts the company on the CISA list). But, I think it’s time to slow my roll on mods, especially with the 10% pay reduction that got implemented recently at work.

I didn’t really mind the chrome the past three years, but after getting more black and more red on the quicksand it’s making me think of doing a chrome delete to keep the truck at the Black and Tan and Red colors theme. The other gear can be other colors, but I’m starting to want to keep the truck going with that Black and Tan and Red theme. Also, might ditch the TRD front skid for some Bud Builts armor in black or red from front to back later down the road. ...ooh, and that 5.29 regear people keep talkin about. Mpg’s have dropped significantly, but at least the gas prices have also gone down recently. Aaagh... gotta pray for some financial discipline here.
