Anything welding

Couldn't that introduce a bunch of risk though? Like if it was a lease, would I take on the previous owners bill? Or can they just take the tank from me? Been reading about stuff like taking my tank, I did get a great deal on the welder and tank so it's not like it's a huge loss, but I do like having that big of a tank. I still have my smaller C25 too.

Without being sure of if the tank was leased or not it is hard to say. Even some tanks that have company names on the top can be "owned tanks"....swing the tank by a competitor or other shop that fills/swaps tanks out. I wouldn't worry about it.

 

Had to dig the welder out. Got a job to do at work tomorrow that I won’t be able to get to with the mig welder outside.

 

I’ve taken other shops bottles to different shops and they swap out the tanks no problem. All they do is take the other shops sticker off and slap one of theirs on it haha

 

How do you do exchanges?

Really embarrassing if it does not start or if the brushes are stuck.

Nothing worse then the ignition switch left on for a few weeks.

 

That was just the initial purchase and fill . Drive down the street to the local weld shop for a fill.

In this day and age with so many of the old school people retiring who were more based on customer service then making sure the Paper work is perfect and the physical inventory and computer is spot on.

I see differences in the same companies between different branches all within 25 miles of each other.

I venture big difference in NJ compared to most other places.

 

I always wondered about this, but my understanding of the leased tanks is they don't track each individual tank. You just pay to lease a tank, doesn't matter which one. So if you ended up with it, I would assume you'd be fine.

 

I keep a battery tender on it and crank it once a month.

Gotcha. It don’t have a key. It has an ignition switch that starts it and it has to be turned off to cut the engine off. Hopefully it’s never been left on, hasn’t since I bought it new that I know of about 18 years ago.

 

I am new to TIG welding, so I am regularly f'ing up my electrodes. Decided to cut down on my walk time back and forth to the belt sander. Added this cute little 3" 80 grit HF wheel to my cart.

I plan to wire it into one of the incoming 120v legs, so I won't need extension cord.

Hey everyone,

I'm planning on building some adjustable UCA's pretty soon and wanted to get some opinions on what wall thickness I should go for. I can't find any info on what major companies like camburg and total chaos use, plus they use chromoly so I will probably want to go a little thicker because I'll be using mild steel.

I'm thinking 3/16''. Thoughts?

 

I was thinking 3/16" as well.

They can't be much more than 12 gauge from the factory.

 

My buddy just did some Arms for his 1970 GMC and used 1.25” DOM 1/4” wall

 

@koditten that was my thought as well, stock is thin and can take a lot of abuse.

@Shmellmopwho I'll definitely use DOM. 1/4'' seems like it's overkill but it would certainly add peace of mind. Might just go the overkill route.
