Hi. Thanks in advance for any help. I tried doing a search but didn't see this issue. I got this truck in December. I drove it from Massachusetts to California. The cruise control did not work which on a long trip is a pain in the posterior. While bored driving through Oklahoma I hit the switch and it magically started working. It worked fine all the way home. Now I cant get it to work at all. I am not sure where to start.

Sounds like your clock spring is bad. I just changed mine on my 08 Tundra.IMG_20200226_182024.jpg

Do I change out the entire switch at the column?

    Yes.

Check to make sure your truck does not have a recall for that part. Yours may be covered.

You're not changing a switch, you're changing a box full of wires that connects every device, ( cruise, horn, air bag), that moves with the steering wheel, to the stationary part of the steering column.

Sometimes those wires, it's actually a ribbon cable, break over time from being wound and unwound from turns over it's life.

Check your VIN for outstanding recall C0B. It is in the list you posted. Note that Toyota often refers to the clockspring as the spiral cable. The recall was only for trucks without steering wheel audio controls.

If yours has already had the recall done, you may need to replace it again.

    Part numbers as follows:

84306-04080 - Cable, Spiral (without Audio Controls)
84306-0E010 - Cable, Spiral (with Audio Controls)

Note: Toyota gets $240 bucks for the part. I got mine for $9 on Ebay.

You can get it from an online dealer for about $130. For a safety item I'd rather chance it vs a random eBay one.

That's not the really how the SRS system works.

If you got no air bag light lit on the dash, the system is fine. A $200 cable is the same as a $9 cable.

Besides, are you going to trust the air bags are gonna work on a 15 year old car? Wear your seatbelt.

I know how the SRS system works but stand behind my statement. Things work until they don't. Sure the SRS ECU will likely let you know if the cable fails but I'd rather not have it fail in the first place. I've also seen a lot of recall parts listed for sale on places like eBay which usually makes me think that people may be selling old removed parts.

I also always wear my seat belt, but everyone should always do that, even more so with an airbag - those things kill without a seatbelt on. I've got a few cars without airbags (either from the factory or that I removed), but I still would probably spend the $120 for a safety-related item.

So I have audio controls on the left side of the steering wheel. The recall does not apply to my truck, and I need to order a specific control unit for that specific option. If I am reading this correctly.

I went to the Toyota site and entered my VIN no current recalls came up.

Again thanks for all the help!

That's correct, yeah. The recall was only for trucks without audio controls.

If it is the spiral cable/clockspring that you need, it will be 84306-0E010.

I would of course check to see what’s actually wrong before just ordering random parts.

Trying to purchase a clock spring for my son's 08 Tacoma with radio controls on wheel. Will the 84306-04080 work or does he need the 84306-0E010 ? If you need more info let me know. (His air bag light is coming on)

84306-0E010 is for a 2008 Tacoma with steering wheel audio controls.
