Dual square recessed USB outlet ?

Same form factor as a square Taco dash switch. Google is utterly and totally useless for finding stuff like this. Anybody got a link?

Do you absolutely need two outlets?

 

No, one would do. I was thinking 2 for future expansion. Gonna put it in the headliner console to power my dashcam. Don't have power in the mirror.

Just ordered a round one. It comes with a screw on ring to hold it in. I figure a square one could be problematic. Those I found on eBay looked like they were made to be mounted in a far thicker substrate than Taco dash plastic. Still would go for a square one if I can find one that would work.

I did the second and it's great. I was never able to find a dual USB outlet that would fit the center stack. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I just could never find one.

 

Those typically in place of the cigarette lighter plug. They all mostly work.

And I found these fairly quickly using Google, so I don't think you can put your failure on the search engine.

 

The Tacoma switches aren’t square, so that might be part of the problem.

Are you just wanting it to charge phones? Because you won’t find one that will talk to the radio like the factory USB port will.

a search for “Toyota usb charger” gave me quite a few options. Just make sure to get one for the short switch spots and not the tall ones

I want to replace one of my 12v charging ports with dual USB. Would something like this work? Can I just plug the Toyota wiring to the back of this?

You'll have to wire it up. It's not hard. Figure out what's positive and negative off the 12v charger in the truck, cut off the plug, put some female spades on the wires, and connect.

 

I'm hoping I can somehow make use of the stock connector/connections. If not I may make my own little wiring adapter (using the correct gauge of course). I don't like cutting stock wiring.

Turned out pretty good. Had to remove more stuff just to get to it than I initially realized. And I made a little wiring harness thing using the supplied wire so I wouldn't have to cut the stock wiring.

 

Got one ordered. Have a tracking number but it hasn't shipped yet. A lot of eBay sellers use this as a stalling tactic.

 

I just used Amazon. It reads the battery voltage hooked up to stock wiring harness also.

 

I originally ordered one from Amazon and got an email from the seller saying the warehouse in China was yet fully operational so there would be a delay. I canceled that order and went with eBay. i may have jumped from the frying pan to the fire. Time will tell.

 

you can use the stock wiring for the round usb outlets. The easiest way is cut the stock fixed L shaped connect right down the middle and connect those to the new plug.
