    You might want to cover or protect the fuses/holders from the weather.

    Dirt and moisture will eventually corrode the fuse connections. I had a temporary setup like that - after about a year, I had to replace fuse holder.

    Thanks for the info.

    At this point I am used to using color coded wire by voltage (12 / 24 / 48 ) and then spiral wrapping the bundles it in PTFE. Always on the lookout for for improvements.

    I will need to buy some of that loom and play with it.

    Most items that are available in 12 volt are also available in 24 volt. Refrigerators, fans, lights, heaters, inverters, etc. Semi truck and marine stuff is routinely 24 volt. It might be easier to just do a 24 volt house battery pack. About 1/2 of the systems that I build are 24 volt IMHO easier than 12 volt), the other 1/2 are 48 volt, which honestly is a bit more painful to deal with due to parts availability.

    Shouldn't be much difference, wire and connectors are similar, the same type of parts are needed(connectors and such), the only benefit to 24v that I see is smaller wire because higher voltage at lower amperage.

    If your vehicle runs on a 24v system stick with it, if it runs 12v stick with that.

    Hi - I am attempting to help a friend with his Tacoma, but don't have access to it right now.

    In the photo, there is a cover marked 400 watt idle, 100 watt running.
    - Is this item a factory stock 12 volt outlet that is on most Tacomas?
    - Is it on / off with ignition on/off?
    - I am assuming that it is a 12 volt outlet of some type?

    The reason for the questions is that I am looking for an:
    - Switched 12 volt supply that goes on/off with the ignition
    - 10 - 20 ish amps range (or more if that is available easily)
    - For powering some items in the bed area

    That is mostly correct. He already has a 24 volt vehicle so it seemed to make sense to keep it that way. There are some other subtle improvements as well.

    The large plug cover on the right is the factory supplied 120VAC inverter female plugin. It's on and off with ignition AFAIK.

    The two outlets on the left are the Blue Sea weatherproof 12VDC outlets I added that are constant hot for my refer and whatever.

    To make the 12VDC outlets ignition only would require the addition of a relay triggered by an ignition signal and I honestly don't know if that could be done at the inverter plugin or if you would have to go further toward the cab to grab that signal.

    2019 TRD Sport manual access tow, no room on passenger side sadly. Anyone know of a side-by-side battery tray that is not specific to AGM batteries? Since 2019 has charging voltage set by ECU I can't do the funky fuse/diode trick to bump up the voltage. I just want to run 2 standard lead batteries next to each other, with a relay to control charging that will lock off the aux or main. Would also be great if no drilling into my truck is required. I tried reading through this thread but after about 13 pages decided I wouldn't be able to read every page, sorry if my question was answered on a later page!

    I would honestly reconsider a side by side dual battery set up. That’s generally too heavy for one side and several people have had issues with the thin sheetmetal fenders cracking because of this.

    Perhaps behind one of the back seats will be a better option? Removing the plastic creates a lot more space back there

    Rather not run a wet cell in the cab due to vapors (worried about turning japanese) (lol a few will get that), plus can a battery fit behind those jumpseats in an Access cab?
    The only dual tray I've found (from off grid 4x4) that might work is this one but it requires drilling my truck: /collections/battery-trays/products/2005-2017-toyota-tacoma-dual-battery-tray-side-by-side

    Could run the aux battery in the bed of the truck. Wouldn't have to worry about vapors then. You'd need to run some really thick wire to connect the two since they would be so far apart, but some 1/0 would work. I've done this before.

    Did you run the wires under the cab or have to pull everything out to route them through the cab and firewall?

    This is sort of controversial, but I run mine under the cab. 1/0, 2/0, and 3/0 wires are so damn thick it's a pain trying to hide them inside the cab. Doesn't really fit under the molding. When running under the cab, I always use some sort of protective wire loom, and lots of zip ties. Keep it high and away from heat and moving parts. Oh, and use a pretty large fuse as well in the unlikely event that line gets severed or damaged.
