i have been looking for a set of extra rear seat storage bins for my 19 Tacoma. a set popped up on marketplace this week but the guy said they were from a gen 2. does anyone know if they are the same, because they sure look similar.

no they are different. The 3rd gen versions have a hump in the central section to accommodate the rear cab vent design. The 2nd gen vents are different and have flat bins that mate flush to the wall.

From the child seat anchors up I think they are the same, below that is different.

no from the anchors up they are different. Let me see if I can find a picture. You could cut around where the vents on the back of the cab are for clearance if they end up making contact and won’t see flush if your fine with that.

Great pictures, I always thought it was just the bump inwards the sides make that was different.

Yeah, I think like I said, clearance for the cab vents, and also clearance for the trucks equipped with the electronic sliding rear window motor too. They also ditched that worthless storage pocket on the passenger side that really just got in the way.
