Just purchased my 2020 Tacoma TRD PRO. I'm coming from 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x4 and wanted to share my impressions of ride comfort and overall feel of the new PRO.
Overall I love the new truck. For all others who selected PRO over Sport or Off-Road what do you guys think and why did you choose the truck you did?

    Thanks!

I purchased a 2017 Pro and sold it and bought a Off Road and couldn’t be happier. The “leather” in the Pros is really a terrible quality leather (more like leatherette). The cloth seats are also more comfortable and don’t get hot in the summer and cold in the winter like leather. Also don’t slide around as easy when off roading as cloth actually grips. The fake hood scoop blocks your view when off roading. The Fox shocks are overrated as they are not adjustable. Much happier with my BP51’s that I can adjust the rebound and compression on to match how I have my truck set up and what trails I’m hitting. And the money saved by purchasing an Off Road instead can get you started on some great mods. I don’t see how a Pro is worth purchasing. I made the mistake of buying one but made out pretty good as they hold their value so well. If your going to keep the truck stock or use it just as a mall queen then I can see how getting a Pro might make sense. But if your going to actually use your truck off road and plan on doing some upgrades then a Off Road makes more sense. Just my 2 cents.

I bought a used Extra Cab 2004 TRD OR about 8 years ago for light hauling around our property. We live in a rural area and have about 1/2 mile of dirt road to get to our place. Not too long after buying it my wife and I began crewing for a hot air balloon company and we used it for a chase vehicle. Chasing takes us into some interesting locations. I'm now a few months away from retirement and as we planned that out I considered getting a new truck, even though the 2004 only had a bit over 40k miles on it.

I loved the Gen 1 but the new truck was going to be my daily driver. I have a '96 BMW Z3 so I couldn't keep the 2004 and get a new truck. We have 3 grandchildren who are now too big for the jump seats and sometimes when we crew we carry passengers or other crew back to the start point so I needed a crew cab. As I though about which model to get I originally looked at getting an OR because I wanted a truck that could handle the abuse of our dirt road plus some limited off road when we're crewing and get into rougher conditions. I enjoy the new technology, wanted leather seats, a sunroof and LED lights. I could have packaged out an OR - I have a friend who is a VP at a dealership who would have worked to find/order pretty much anything I wanted. I planned on working the timing to take delivery in June of this year because I have a daily driver that is provided through my job, my wife has her car, the Z3 is in the garage and the 2004 was in fantastic shape.

And then Army Green. Retired Army guy...I fell in love with the color. Didn't need all the bells and whistles of the Pro but also knew this could be the last vehicle I bought. The upgraded suspension and crawl control to extricate myself from a rough area if I got into something while chasing was a big plus - might not use it but having it in case made sense to me. I'll do some minor mods but buying an OR and then adding the suspension mods isn't something I'd do. The Pro came with all the technology and comfort features I wanted....and Army Green.

I initially checked with my friend about getting one back in October. He told me he'd have limited allocations but would try. I told him when I wanted to take delivery and he promised to do what he could. I was Ok with that and said I'd ultimately either go for another color Pro if AG wasn't available or an OR. Fast forward to January and my wife and I were talking over retirement finances. She knew I really wanted the AG Pro and as we finished the discussion said "let's go ahead and get it now." I texted my friend and asked if could get one ASAP. His response was "Call me." As it turned out, he got an allocation for one after we'd talked in late October in his December allocations that was scheduled to be built in January. He decided to hold it for me figuring if I ultimately didn't want it he'd have no problems selling it. It was due to be built in about 10 days and I picked up my AG Pro about 3 weeks later.

Although the current situation has limited my driving it - it's only got about 850 miles on it so far I really love it. It has the room and features my Gen 1 didn't. It has the upgraded suspension and crawl control to last years over our road conditions and for use crewing. Is it more than I need. Probably. Do I care? No. Maybe my last vehicle, my retirement vehicle, my daily driver soon, it is fun to drive and can do anything I need it to do...and more. Oh, and Army Green.

Devious6, that's great that you got your dream truck. We don't buy the vehicles we do because of specifications and numbers but because of the way they make us feel. Of course all the extra specs help as well ;)

I'm waiting to see if Pro prices drop to around 30k with 0% financing.

It's a buyer's market, if it won't happen now it never will. I like AG and want a ridiculous deal.

I'm just here for the delicious non-Pro tears.

The price point for the Pro was close enough to a loaded Off Road and the Green color won us over.

Cool. We're all happy that you're happy for your brother. The Pro-4X is really the competitor for the TRD OR, but far be it from me to convince a guy talking about his brother's Datsun on a Toyota forum.

    Don't hold your breath.

The ancient PRO4x is a good rig in its own right, however, there is NOOO way it would ever outperform or “run all over” as you say a TRD pro anywhere on this planet. Plus let’s not even get into the looks aspect of both vehicles lol. Nice attempt though :)
