salvage places.... look carefully when you buy from them. Mine was perfect, even came with the wiring harness.

Does the overhead switch panel insert just pop out from the front or back?

I was able to pop it out by pushing it from the back/top once the console was loose.

Yep, pull the whole overhead console down, disconnect the wiring harnesses and you'll be able to push the plastic switch panel in the center down and outta there.

Thanks, I didn't want to just try to pry it out and break something.

My Chamberlain switch has aCR2032 3v battery. How can I make the switch hardwired instead of battery operated?

Not to trying to derail this thread, but I have been sitting on this idea for about a year. A little while ago, we scored a MyQ internet device for cheap ($30). It has been freaking excellent working on our older Genie opener with no mod time for the Taco.

We even toss out our old keypad remote that used to chew through batteries.

I was in the same boat as wanting to not have it clipped to the visor. That’s an easy signal of “come on in!” When parked outside. I looked at all these threads and saw some pretty intricate solutions.

and then I just did a peel and stick attachment of my opener to the console cover. Sorry it’s sideways. But yeah when I need to open or close the garage I just open the console and it’s there. Not out in the open and didn’t take any elegant solutions.

Just completed Phase 1 of this mod. I failed on my first attempt with one of the remotes like in post #20. The lesson of that story is to make sure you check with a paperclip which pins you want to solder to. Ordered a pair of replacements for $18 off of Amazon.

Here is what it looks like after I soldered the wires to the remote

    Garage2.jpg

I used this dremel tip to trim the outer casing of the remote

    Garage3.jpg

All snapped back together and some hot glue applied. I got the AOB switch for the lower panel in the center. So I'll have to take that whole dash apart it looks like. Good thing we've got nothing but time.

Phase 2 and a successful installation. The only thing I couldn't figure out is getting the button to light up (more below). If anyone has any ideas please share.

The downside to the location i chose for the button was having to take the whole dash and center console apart. Seems a lot scarier than it is. This link and video were helpful. First time is slow, but much easier the times after.

Here are some pics of the dash and center console removed.

    Garage7.jpg Garage8.jpg Garage9.jpg

While I had this location open, I decided to change the power adapter to a dual usb with voltmeter and tuck the factory USB/AUX behind the dash and run a cable up to my DMM.

    Dual USB/Voltemeter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GKK9HZT/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here's the panel with the Garage Button and USB installed

    Garage11.jpg Garage10.jpg Garage12.jpg

Mounted the garage remote on the post behind the speedometer. Figured this would be an easy place to get to when the time comes to change the battery or mod it further with power from the truck. So far I have the same range from when the remote was in the little cubby to left of the steering wheel.

    Garage13.jpg

Quick spliced some connectors to the USB to the exiting power adapter wiring. For switch illumination I tried tapping the light in the Qi tray and the ECT switch but neither got the garage switch to light up. (blue wire (+) from AOB switch to green wire, and black wire (-) from AOB switch to the tan wire).

    Garage14.jpg

And here it is all buttoned back up.

    Garage15.jpg Garage16.jpg

Thanks to OP for this thread. I liked how it came out, minus the no switch illumination part but I will get that resolved at a later date.

For those of you who have never attempted something like this, it's not that difficult. Just take your time. If for nothing else, this mod is great for getting familiar with your interior trim panels and some basic wiring knowledge. If you have never soldered before, you may want to have an extra remote handy.

You need to redo your solder joints, they are cold and need to be redone.

You can just run an add a fuse to power the switch

Can you tell me more about how you found which wires to slice into coming out of the traction control switch? TIA
