A340F Transmission Fluid

Just wondering want fluid everyone’s using? Need to do a drain and fill and possibly a filter change too. Does anyone have the part number for the filter?

 

Toyota Type T-IV fluid from the dealer or a reseller. Do not use anything else.

Looks like @Timmah! used Valvoline Dex/Merc. Might just go with that

 

Your call. I would only use the OEM specific T-IV.

 

When I had my transmission serviced at the Dealership a few years ago, the service tech told me nothing but Type IV in my 03 DC auto transmission.

 

The absolute cheapest Dex III I can find. "Filter" is a metal screen, don't bother replacing. If you must take off the pan, just inspect, and maybe clean with some mineral spirits, and put it back in.

These Aisin transmissions were put in a lot of different cars including Jeeps which did NOT specify Toyota brand fluid. I use valvoline. Anything that meets the Dex III spec it’ll work fine. Buying Toyota brand in this case is a waste of money IMO

 

So I shouldn’t bother with a new filter?

 

Clean the screen if you drop the pan. If you’re not dropping the pan, just do a few drain and refills of the fluid over a few months

 

I think my transmission has been whining for awhile. I don’t think any maintenance has been done to the transmission in about 5 years according to the PO’s records.

The filter is cheap enough to replace; I cleaned mine with brake cleaner anyway because I didn't want to wait for shipping.

Also, even though there's a gasket available for our pans, I'd suggest using the Toyota FIPG.

 

The reason I posted that is, that another dealership more local to me, stated that I needed the same fluid as the newer trucks were using, which I didn't believe them.So any Dex III would be okay to use if I needed to add a bit between changes. Appreciate ths info

 

Does anyone know the torque spec for the drain bolt on the A340F?

11 ft/pds.

 

Snug enough so it doesn't drip, I'd guess around 20 ft/lbs or so?

Land Cruiser manual states 15 ft lbs, I was close. This isn't gonna be one of those specs you have to nail exactly. So nice and snug with regular ratchet or wrench. No breaker bars and no railroading/hamfisting it and you'll be okay.

I can appreciate you wanting to do things by the book though. Absolutely nothing wrong with that
