    I may be wrong here...but those engines had no port injectors at all. So there was never any circumstances to clean the valves.

    And also, keeping valves clean does not require port injectors. Mazda has proven this. The skyactiv engine, which I spent 5 years learning everything about, has no port injectors. Instead the cylinder head is designed in such a way that the intake valves stay 400+* and the build up burns off.

    The previous data (other tunes) are based on stock injection control. That doesn't mean that it was "better."
    The boost thread of ours shows how we went into finding the controls, why it was necessary...because boost.
    But there are benefits discovered from it.

    Honestly, this whole arguement is BS. DI only engines after the first generation are doing great. I do like the this setup though.

    Things
    Honda Earth Dream engines also do not have any issues with carbon buildup and they are 100% direct injection.

    We bought a 2012 Mazda 3 Skyactiv with 121k. It has almost 129k now. Runs like a champ and seems to have had only the basic maint.

    Our 2014 Forester XT with DI only is doing great at over 60k. Probably the best motor and factory tune combo that we ever owned. It is screaming for a better transmission behind it.

    His data does NOT suggest there will be future carbon build ups.
    His data only shows how we modified injection control.

    Ok so nobody knows how long it takes for build up to occur. Nobody knows how many squirts and how often will cause cleaning to occur so why dont we leave it up to the guy or created the tune, tested, dyno’d the truck to provide that for us. If i was going to learn golf i want tiger woods to teach me and not the guy who served me a cheeseburger at the drive thru.

    lol, the data being presented only shows what is happening. There was no explanation or data to show that there is a long term problem. Dude is just making an issue out of nothing.

    I’ve run more miles tuned than anyone else with zero problems. I’ve also not gone searching them out.

    this is no different than the misfire complaints from before.

    Just because something isn’t like it was before, doesn’t mean it’s a problem...

    Because the data is just that, data. He's not showing that it does cause build-up, hes saying it's different than in previous versions. I could have told you that just by reading that OVtune said he made that change.

    for those of us who understand how port and direct injection work, we are not concerned about it. :thumbsup: It is clear that vlady doesn’t understand how it works and/or why Mat’s configuration is more than good enough.
