Indeed, TY04/crossover wiring makes complete sense. You def live up to your title "I fix people's crappy stereos" hahha.

I'm actually really liking the new Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX, but it appears so new it's on pre-order through Crutchfield. Any idea on a lead time? I bet that sleek screen would pair perfect with the Scosche TA2121B dash kit with the gloss black finish. Although I see people favor the Metra dash kit because it blends better with the outer bezel despite people having to use washers to level it out.

Torn between these two sub options:
    - JL Audio ACP108LG-W3v3 (8" sub/box w/ built-in amp)
    - JL Audio 10” Stealthbox (10" sub/box w/o amp)

The only thing about double dins that throws me off is the fact that they are double dins. If I ever change the head unit, it’ll be for an iPad mini or iPad Pro 10.5. And I’ll have a single din hiding behind it.

I previously had the 4200nex and I loved that thing. Pioneer is offering a bigger screen but. But not sure when it’s releasing.

As for sub, I have the 10tw3 and it sounds pretty damn good for a 10. I may just add another one for when I’m feeling extra.

Yeah, too bad the Pioneer DMH-C5500NEX 8" unit is not compatible / won't fit. That's one step closer to what you're talking about. The youtube link hints at what you're talking about. Looks like the upcoming big screens are single din which, I assume, means the screen will stick out and not be flush with the dash bezel. I'm hoping for something double din that sits flush with the bezel.

What box do you have for your sub? I'm going to have to cut out the JBL panel in the back and fabricate some sub box/amp combination to fit back there.

I believe the C5500 would be compatible. It’s just a single din slot. With a little work, I’m sure there’s a way to mount it flush against the panel. After reading a few reviews on Crutchfield and checking the dimensions, looks like it’ll fit despite Crutchfield stating it wouldn’t.

as for the sub box, I have the slim power wedge from JL just sitting behind the driver seat. I’m currently pending Marv on the sub enclosure and amp rack.

For a really slim box, this little guy pounds. I’m maxing out of my 600 watt rms amp(sub rated at 400rms) and it just keeps taking it. I see now why so many love them. A bit spendy but definitely worth it. Can’t imagine what the 12 and the 13s sound like.

Did you ever finish wiring up your TY04? if so, would you mind posting a few pictures?

    Hey Dave,

I don’t have pictures of the finished harness. But if you follow the wiring pin outs from the photo on page 1, that should give you a great starting point. Keep in mind that there will be a couple pins that will not plug into anything. You can simply de-pin them. It’s a universal harness used across multiple models in the Toyota family.

I would suggest using a 9 volt battery to test the speakers to ensure that they are indeed correct. This took all but 30 minutes to identify and label. Be sure to use a tool to test polarity to ensure they are wired correctly.

After using the polarity tool, I found out my tweeters and rear speakers were reversed. Which is a very common mistake in the car audio world. Best to check it in the end when all of the wires are connected.

I used this and it worked perfectly. And it’s cheap.
