Just went to mount of my new 17” TRD pro (t4r) wheels mounted on 285s and it looks like my wheel studs aren’t even close to supporting this wheel whatsoever. What gives?

waste of fucking time and I feel like a dumbass lol, should have stuck with SCS. I did a decent amount of research and never found anything saying I’d run into this issue. Maybe the people putting them on already had alloy wheels with longer studs (v6). Who knows....

That doesn't look right and never heard anyone having problems with those wheels. Do you have spacers on the truck? It might be the truck not the wheels.

I don't believe the studs are there for support, if I understand your question. The lug nuts should be self-centering and the clamping force of the stud/lug nut combo should provide the squeeze necessary to hold the wheels in place. I really don't think you want the threads supporting the weight of the truck. But hell, I've been wrong one other time in my life. Let's listen to what the experts say.

He’s not referring to load carrying. The studs aren’t even making it past the wheel!

If I remember right, mine don't either. The nut should fit into the hole and engage the stud. What nuts are you using?

The TRD wheels use a mag seat lug nut which is what came stock on our trucks. The SCS wheels you switched from use a conical seat and preferably ET. Which lug nuts are you using? That might be the issue.

If they're off-brand and not Toyota specific you usually need new lug nuts. I think FN is an example of that. Just buy ET lugs and call it a day. Or if you have spacers on, take them off. Or if you still want them you definitely need Extended Thread nuts.

Get the correct lug nuts and it wont be a problem.

I have the stock lugs but was told they wouldn’t work and to pick up some longer 12x1.5 black lugs.

Pop the center cap off and make sure it's seated all the way on the hub. Should look something like this

Those lugs have a conical taper on them, you need the oem style mag seats that sit flat for those wheels. That’s why the wheel stud opening is so big, to fit the lug but.

Those are both wrong for those wheels. You need a mag seat lug nut:
    50ECC245-D2FD-4B09-9260-479DA8F45993.jpg

You can see they will fit inside the wheel lug holes and engage the proper amount of threads.

You need OE mag type lug nuts. The shank centers the wheel and the flat washer holds it.

Yeah neither of those will work. You need the flat washer "mag" style nuts

Here's a shot of mine for you - they only extend beyond the wheel a couple of threads after fully seating. Using Gorilla lug nutsIMG_3714.jpg IMG_3713.jpg

I suppose to answer the question in the title of the thread:

“Yes. A lot of people knew this.”

Looks like you were getting incorrect info previously.
