I double checked the literature just so I’m not spreading false information haha. It’s a big range but 31% is the current estimate. Now that changes big time based on age, risk factors, prior pregnancy lost, etc. I got a chuckle reading you write your wife is scary fertile haha.

Looks out in the Eustis/Stratton area. It's a lot cheaper price wise than most might think. Property tax on the other hand, not sure how pricey that is

Good to know, thanks! I basically want a little cabin on the water. Something nice enough to be able to live in but not large or anything.

something you might be surprised by is the access to plumbing. Y’all might have an outhouse depending how far north and how much Maine cabin you go for :D.

I'm basically saving enough my truck will be paid off in July. I'll start putting the truck payment into the Jeep which should pay it off next September if my estimates are correct. If my refinance closes next week, I should actually get a little spending money again, so hopefully I'll have enough for the 2020 LEDs by July, assuming my company doesn't fold. We will see though. I'm trying to weigh the "will I be employed" versus "I should fix things on my house". I hate walking that tightrope. I entered the workforce in 2007 when things were still good, then 2008 happened and I spent most of 2009-2010 on the last week of a two week notice, so I'm still somewhat spooked. Oh well.

This whole thing I think has been very eye opening to the younger people in the work place, the ones that joined after 2008. Like you, I made it through the 2008 debacle and know what it's like to be on pins and needles. I know a few younger people now who were giving management a hard time before this all hit, demanding raises and promotions constantly, arguing everything in their performance review because they think it should be marked higher, things like that and they are now learning a valuable lesson. They went from being the loudest to trying to blend in and being the softest spoken once the lay offs and furloughs started rolling out. I think they're learning a very valuable lesson about the perils of the workplace and that no one's job is guaranteed.

Yup. Hard to find kids that want to actually learn the trade I'm in. Seen quite a few in the 6 years I've been machining just not give a damn

I interviewed a guy who was out of work for two years and thought he was all that. Wanted mid 60s as an entry level tech in a rural school district and was shocked that wasn't on the table. Got ahold of me later saying he supposed something was better than nothing. The sense of entitlement from someone who has been job hunting without success for two years was incredible. He was probably between 28 and 30 based on the dates on his resume...I got the impression that he didn't like that he would be older than his potential boss either.

I work in qa in a machine shop. We recruit out of the community college. It’s great but they don’t make machinists. They teach them to program the newer machines then they enter the workforce and learn that nobody used the brand new machines. Floppy discs dude.

o_O that’s more than I made entry level as an engineer in industry! Good lord.

problem is everyone wants to have all the goodies in life. They know they want a brand new Tacoma and think they should be paid enough to buy one. I worked my tail off for 5 years and even still it wasn’t a good decision, did it anyway though.

when i got laid off a couple years ago i was in the top ten in the country for performance, thought if i just did my job well i'd have a job. so i got laid off, then they hired me back a couple of weeks later thanks to some people that spoke up and went to bat for me. came in second in the country by the end of the year, and still got a 3 out of 5 on my end of year performance review. that was definitely a good "life isn't fair" learning experience

I was the only one to exceed goals in the Northeast in 2019, received two performance bonuses, volunteered for every task force, rode with every corporate goon that wanted to see leaf season in the NE or eat a lobster. I was well liked and respected by my coworkers and customers. I Got a 1 out of 5 on my performance review. My whole team was aghast, I requested a “360 review” (by everyone around me in the company and out) and got fired within 30 days...before any review was conducted. At the beginning of a global pandemic.
    No, life is not fair.

Yup, I could have offered up to 42 at the time for a perfect candidate, so mid 60s wasn't even in the ballpark.

I probably shouldn't have bought my truck either. The responsible thing would have been keeping my 2011. But, I consider it to be the one thing I splurge on...I am pretty cheap everywhere else. And I can afford it without a problem so it isn't like I am sacrificing elsewhere to do it.

same deal here. Normal house no mansion. Don’t eat out much. Don’t have any toys like boats or anything. Just my bikes and as much as I joke bikes are expensive overall and relatively they’re really not.

Sounds like a company that knew you deserved money, but didn't have it/didn't want to give it. Sounds like with your work ethic though, You'll be back at it soon enough.

Sometimes you gotta splurge on a big boat my man, nothing like the open ocean on a nice yacht!

I know this conversation has come up before but I need a quick run down. Moving into a rental (owned by the long time GFs dad) and I would like to upgrade the thermostat. Currently has an ancient Honeywell turn dial. Looking for something that can be programmed for warmer evenings and less heat during the day. It’s a very old house and has no central air so it only needs to control heat to my knowledge. It will stay in the house as a gift when we move in many years so I’m not budget shy.

I have Honeywell Lyric T5s because MassSAVE had a good deal on them. They're a little clunky. If I use Geofencing the app eats battery on my phone like crazy, so I stopped doing that. Sometimes I lose the ability to adjust from my phone too and I need to cycle power to them to get it to work again. They do look nicer than many of the others in my opinion, but that's about all they have going for them.

    So, I wouldn't recommend those.
