Using onboard air for air bags

Anyone ever run their airbags off an onboard air compressor? I have the ARB single compressor and want to set it up to inflate the airbags I’m getting off a switch. I plan on installing a gauge in the cab to make sure I don’t over fill. My main question is what parts will I need to utilize one of the two switch harnesses that are meant for lockers?

 

Are you also using the ARB compressor to air-up tires or actuate a locker, or will it strictly be for your helper bags?

 

I am using it for airing up tires and eventually I would like to put a knocker in my front diff but no immediate plan for it. The compressor is set up with the air hose adapter in the main spot. I still have the two bungs in the little tank that comes on it. I figured I could still use the one for a locker and the other for the airbags

 

Unless you absolutely want the looks of the ARB switch, the easiest way to wire it is going to be to eliminate the ARB wiring all together, and simply run the compressor's power and ground to a simple on/off switch (SPST). It's best to run a relay, IMO, so you're not sending full current through the switch. You obviously don't need to install the solenoids that control the air lockers until you're ready to have a locker installed. Since there's two ports, for now you can run one for an air chuck and one for your bags. However, if you want to install a pressure gauge for your bags, you'll need a small manifold on that port, and a reducer, so you can plumb the gauge's air line into the system.

 

I’d like to keep the arb switches since they already run to a relay supplied with the compressor. I’ve done some googling and found an ARB solenoid is that something I’d need to utilize the other switch wiring from the ARB harness?

 

You can get cheaper 12v solenoids. No reason to pay that ARB markup. I think this one will work.

That solenoid controls air flow from the compressor's small tank to the air locker--you won't need it at this point. If you want to use the ARB switch, you can follow the wiring diagrams that are available online, or in this TW thread:
