That was just to advanced for someone asking where to set the machine up.

I know, I actually thought about answering it but didn't know how to gently :D

I realize we all have to start somewhere and learn as we go, I'm just not good with teaching, never have been.

This stuff is exhausting and expensive! I already had a great appreciation for fab companies but even more so now. This bumper was pretty basic and I have about $250 in material into it, plus maybe 20 hours of fab work? Obviously a company will be more streamlined, but still, nothing fast or cheap about bumpers that's for sure.

I get more satisfaction out of making things myself than buying them, even if it sometimes cost a little more.

I answer this type of question all to often in person I have gotten better I now keep my big mouth shut and walk away .

Scary hearing a first time welder and a clueless counter person there last job was selling High end electronics when neither can weld discussing how to spec wire and gas.

For me it depends, one example is spindle gussets. I could definitely DIY something but there's already a plethora of options and cheap too, so sometimes I'll value my time more and just pay for something. This bumper though, that was definitely satisfying.

I try and tell people to just buy a welder and teach themselves rather than pay me (if it's a more expensive project) but no one ever does. Being in this hobby and having the ability to weld is a very handy skill to have.

1/4". Cleaning up previous welds. These are for my sliders. I don't like how they look.

Also can I go over them? Or would I need to grind down ?

As others have said. I started with a Hobart 140 and it has been great. Zero issues.

Most of the internal parts are miller, so it’s easy to source and replace should something go wrong.

Went from a 60 to an 80 while I was there. It’s still a small tank but seems so much bigger than my last one. I also need to build a better cart.

Not bad for not welding anything besides sheet metal for 2yrs. Light tabs, I see some undercut on the first one and the second weld I was positioned bad and a tube got in the way of my sight at the end.
