Is it just me ? Engaging transmission before releasing parking brake

Love my 2019 Sport V6 4X4 6sp. I am 6500 Mi. in to it, Have driven Manuel shifts sense the early 60's. was taught to"always set the parking brake" before getting out.
This trans. will NOT engage 1st. or any other gear. unless the parking brake is released first.
I have always engaged the trans. before releasing the parking brake. Is there an interlock Mechanism I am not aware of ? that I can disable ?

 

MT? I wouldn't worry about it with the clutch engaged, I do do this in my AT tho.

 

I bet its been crowded having Manuel ride along with you all these years to shift for you. Oh, I see you mean you've driven a manual transmission.

I have a MY18 and my gears aren't blocked out when my handbrake is engaged.

I always park in gear with my hand brake engaged, which all should do regardless.

 

The trans really won’t go onto drive with the handbrake applied ?

Nvm. Just noticed you said 6 speed manual. There is no shift inhibit on this trans. I do engage first before releasing the brake all the time

Just you...I'll actually sit in the parking lot waiting for wife. Brake on, engine off and go thru the gears making vroom vroom sounds...no probs.

I do this less pressure on the tranny when I put it in reverse i find.

 

What is this MT sorcery you speak of? You just put it in D and go.

Yes, Manuel has been good company sense I learned to drive in 1965

OK Ok maybe it is just me, I have been leaving it in Neutral, parking brake set every time I shut it off. but the trans will not engage any gear until I release the parking brake first.
