Wife has her eye on a 2020 Freedom Express 257bhs travel trailer.

Guy at dealership said my 2013 Taco PreRunner SRS will tow it with no problem. I have a weight distribution hitch and trailer brakes.

Trailer weighs right at 5K. Just asking for help from experts.

    Thanks.

The guy at the sales place just wants to sell you a trailer. What he’s telling you is not correct. The salesman is lying. That trailer dry weight is almost 5300lbs and may be heavier depending on options. When you load the trailer up you’ll probably be around 6400lbs or more and will probably exceed your trucks max tow weight. The hitch weight dry is 671lbs and will be heavier when the trailer is loaded. Definitely exceeding your max truck hitch weight. If you get the trailer then you need to get a different, bigger truck or you need to get a much lighter trailer.

Agreed. Thats a monster of a trailer, both in length and weight. GVWR with full tanks and cargo can be up to 7500 pounds, your average travel weight after furniture, kitchen, propane and batteries will probably be in the neighborhood of 6500-7000. Way, way too big for a Tacoma. That would push the limits of a few full sized trucks.

Sounds like it’s too much. I just got done pulling a Kubota BX25 trailer weighing in with trailer just about 6 thousand pounds with something around 650 pounds tongue weight.

This much weight is seriously pushing it and driving has to be way slower. Smaller trailer or bigger truck.

mines 3800 dry and I don't think I would go more than that. I don't go far to the camp grounds but it struggles a bit on the hills. wife 2 kids, coolers, food, clothes, and what not.

Tell the salesman you want to tow the trailer first before the sale. I’m willing to bet you won’t buy it.

Good luck, and I wouldn’t tow that much weight with a Tacoma. I’m glad you have the common sense to ask before purchasing vs what we normally see on here.

Already in front of the curve.

We went back toda . I placed strict guidelines on her this go.

We found a great 2019 Grey Wolf (new) that weighs about 3700. I'm much more confident in the Taco doing that.

    Should tow pretty well, correct?

Got a WDH and brake controllers on trailer.

It’s mostly all about the weight. You should do fine with that trailer. The other big factor is wind. If you experience cross winds you’ll get blown around as the sides act like sails. Slow it down when windy. A head wind will slow you down and you’ll use more fuel. But yes weight wise you should be well within limits. We assume your truck has the tow package.
Other things you could do (not absolutely necessary) is install an aftermarket bigger tranny cooler and a scan gauge to keep an eye on temps.

Towed great. The trip home is about an hour over rolling hills and a couple small towns. It was a bit breezy and rainy today, so with a guest you could definitely tell it was there.

But other than that, the Taco did great. Can't wait to take a trip!

@RLM7907 Nice!!!! You are going to have fun!

Before you go out it's time to mod your new trailer. If you thought modding your Taco ate up your weekends, you ain't seen nothing yet! ;)

Good choice going for the smaller trailer.
