Steering rack failure at 43k miles

So truck has 69,989km call it 70k roughly 43kmiles

Was cleaning the truck today and just wiping down the engine bay a little and noticed the power steering fluid was low so started looking around.







Passenger side is wet with oil so seems like it's leaking from here. Driver side is dry

Already know it won't be warrantied since around 58k I was at the dealer because I had a clunk from my inner tie rod which they said is only replaced with the rack and they won't warranty it because of the 2"lift and 33s.

Not sure what to do now. Get a reman or try and upgrade to something stronger. Problem is only thing stronger is the tundra swap from solo Motorsports which is easily going to cost me $3500+ by the time all the fab work and shipping to get it here in Canada.
Marrack isn't on the market yet and will be just as much if not more and not even sure it will work without their long travel kit.

 

How come your reservoir is so dirty? From toping it off?

 

Seriously. I'd comment on how pathetic it is to troll a board where you don't even own the vehicle, but everyone already knows.

 

a brand new one from rockauto is 336 for here in the US....

 

Haven't topped it off.

It's just a dirty engine bay. Oil spray annually doesn't help

 

Give it time his Ranger will soon have plenty of issues being a Ford

It’s not hard to do yourself. Just time consuming. Get a couple buddies and some beer and bang it out.

 

Ahhh oil spray. I thought the reservoir was leaking.

 

Look in the fitting 37's thread. I think those guys were doing tundra swaps for the rack. See what Info u can get there.

My steeeing rack died at 22,000 miles. Leak on the driver's side. Luckily mine was replaced under warranty.

 

Just curious about a couple things...not implying anything.
Did you do zero point calibration after lift and alignment?
Do you go to full lock a lot?

 

I'd tell the dealer to give you a FIRM quote for all parts and labor - AND to include the reason why you mods caused the failure. AND be sure they known you want a very detailed reason / specifics so you can submit it to the AG after you pay so you can get ALL your money back ....

 

Lol that is extremely minor, hardly low in the reservoir and and the spot that’s “wet” looks like light seepage. I would live with it for now until it starts actually leaking to a point it should be replaced

Good advice. Might as well use a $10 bottle of PS Stop Leak instead of topping it up too. Can’t hurt, might even slow the leak down a bit........

 

He’s the only one keeping it alive. He still complains about his Tacoma there too. That and the fact that he pops in to try and push his baseless points, tells me he seems to have some Tacoma-separation or attention issues. Kind of sad really

 

Remove those and get the warranty work done?
