25 million newly unemployed and counting. Do you think they're rushing out to buy? Hell no. I'm watching the local Toyota dealer's inventory. Not a lot of Tacomas moving even with the discounts.

I am sorry that you choose not to engage in pleasant, respectful discussion. It is actually not laughable at all and in fact is very plausible. It is the same scenario where you can have a ton of people hurting financially in this country and a lot of people making a lot of money. Both scenarios can be true and that is often talked about in discussions on income inequality.

My overall point is that we are in real trouble with this virus, absolutely. The economy is in real trouble and the impact could be long term, deep and structural. We also have a potential sub prime crisis with auto loans coming as well (https://jalopnik.com/some-kind-of-auto-lending-crisis-is-in-the-making-1842982327). But that some automakers are preparing to weather this storm by managing supply and stabilizing demand as much as possible. And that is already happening. I pointed out that appears to be Toyota's exact strategy. I never said that people who buy Tacoms are some special breed, etc.

What does it mean for the purpose of this forum? It means that in the short term we are seeing some discounts but we are not seeing massive drops in prices and dealers willing to move inventory at ridiculous prices. The evidence is at best all over the place. Some people are getting deals close to 15% off and perhaps a bit more. Other people are reporting dealers are not willing to budget. In my own experience the dealer I worked with gave a little but was also clear that they are prepared to sit tight for awhile.

So on a positive note ... I hope everyone finds the deal they are comfortable with, stays safe, keeps working and weather's the storm !

I was being polite when I said laughable, because it's actually delusional. There has always been a bifurcation insofar as wealth is concerned in this country, and nobody anywhere has said that everybody is going to go broke and not buy cars. But you are trying to portray a Toyota Tacoma buyer as some special, protected class of people who are immune to what is happening, therefore protecting the Tacoma market from the market forces at work. You have absolutely no basis whatsoever for your argument. You pulled it straight out of your ass.

I'm with you! I would see Tacomas I had my eye on eventually get sold. I made changes to what color I wanted, new to used, almost willing to go with a Colorado at this point. But I know I'd just hate myself after making a purchase out of frustration.

Got this dealer down to $43,500 out the door after rebate, discounts, taxes. This was right before they implemented the $1,750 and 0% APR. Is this deal still worth it? Also, with the new incentives I'm now debating on if I want to take the higher rebate or 0% financing. I know I can shop around at credit unions and get low rates probably around 2-3% but 0% and 90 days deferred sounds pretty nice as well. What do you guys think?

I also have a trade-in which they have yet to appraise but KBB is $17,000 and I owe around $16,000 so I am hoping to negotiate some type of deal where I am not in negative equity with the value they give me. I would be happy if they gave me $16,000 which is what is left on my loan. Thankfully I have a stable job in this economy and I have been shopping around for a Tacoma OR for a while now and I think now is a good time to buy with the incentives, any tips would be appreciated!

    Question… I’m

looking at a 2020 and some of the good incentives right now and I have a 2018 SR5 2 Wheel Dr. double cab that they are offering around 20,500 in trade-in - with a consistent 34,xxx with rebate or 36xxx with 0% but am in no rush an would be up for waiting however in the next few months if deals get better, will my trade in value get worse? And In that case would you recommend moving on something or waiting?

Debatable. Originally figured I wouldn’t need one in western Co and would get an awd suv for the family But my wife is pretty dead set on paying cash for hers and that’s gonna take us a little while and all of her family lives in the Colorado mountains don’t know if I trust having a 2 Wheel Dr. vehicle for her in our two year old while I’m working.

Nice score, same truck here, I take it that was with the $1750 rebate? So just at 13% prior to rebate, nice work, paid similar but didnt have the sweet rebate deal going on right now, so about $1800 more than you.

I was wondering if it was used seeing it on a Ford lot. $44k for a used Tacoma in this market seems lalaland.

Yep, that and the aftermarket raptor lights and wheels/tires. And wasn't gonna say anything but ya probably could have paid that for a new one in this market, my 2020 was $45k and paid $39k, willing to bet you can get a pro for $44k new about now.

Yeah, less than 1000 miles and a trd pro. Here in Vegas the one dealer that still had a green trd pro wouldn’t budge off msrp. The best I had was one dealer In phx talked down to 46.5

How do you work a deal like that? Where did you start with your first offer?

Not difficult at all, thats the same deal I got just some back in Feb on my 20, I just didnt have a $1750 rebate to add ontop of it (didnt have any rebate and managed 13% off MSRP), and dealers are hungry right now, should have no issues getting 10-13% off MSRP prior to the rebate. Simply start reaching out for the best price and have them compete against each other and don't let them factor in rebate since that is money from TFS. Looks like your biggest hurdle will be your 19 trade, since used car values are falling rapidly right now due to sitting inventory and new prices falling.
