@ shakerhood seriously my part of Texas is pretty flat, but now that you mention it, there were some slight grades involved.

Having the same manual trans, just a question.... Do you push in the clutch, fire up the truck, and try to find a gear before letting out the clutch? Or do you let out the clutch in neutral, and let the input shaft of the trans freewheel for a minute first. Reason I ask..... I have no shifting issues, but I let it run in neutral for a couple minutes first, in the Canadian morning. The trans has heavier oil, and the syncros may need a few revolutions to engage. Just a thought. :notsure:

Reminds me of the Mexican firefighter whose wife gave birth to twins. He named the first child Jose and the second child Hose B!

It just one more of those "safety" features being put into all makes and models. i.e. vehicles now going into park when you open the door in gear ugh. They just don't want anyone relying on the trany to hold the vehicle in park. You just gotta get use to it.

I am actually a Chrysler, Dodge. Jeep tech. Won't ever own one unless it's a real Willy's.
We just went through a big recall flashing certain modules to make the vehicle go into park if you open any door while the vehicle is in gear. It has to be shift by wire vehicle.
I think it has something to do with some Hollywood actor running himself over when he got out of his vehicle in gear. Jeep Grand Cherokee crushed him or something.

A new day fresh prospective, and thanks to all with constructive advice. based on all your ideas, let me narrow down the problem a bit further, it will easily engage 1st through 6th. it is when trying to engage Rev. from Neutral, must release parking brake before trans will shift to rev. have gotten stuck against a curb a couple of times. Is this more clear ?
Spelling and grammar are not my strong suits

Newp, my driveway is slightly uphill and I nose in...put brake on, shut down then move from first to reverse (so if the brake fails at least the motor cranks in the natural direction)

I have no idea what your experiencing but it ain't normal..mines a 16.

Ok, I get you now. I just went out and verified your step by step. My thought is.... not a brake related issue as far as I can see it. If I normally shift gears, anything from 1 to 6, no problems. If I try to use that same amount of force to ease over to reverse, it will not go. It feels locked out, and I really have to put some muscle into it, to force it to go. I never noticed it before, because I naturally slap over to reverse from the shifters natural resting position. The extra hump over to reverse is there to keep you from accidentally missing 1st gear. Try messing with it to see what I mean.
