Eyeborg man puts a camera in his eye to record what he can't see
Canadian filmmaker Rob Spence put a video camera in his missing eye, instead of a regular glass eye. His goal? To film the world with his custom-made battery operated video camera.

Canadian filmmaker Rob Spence turned his prosthetic eye into a video camera.

He lost an eye in a childhood shooting accident when he was nine, but has made the most of it and become a cyborg celebrity of sorts. His custom-made prosthetic eye has a battery-powered wireless video camera. It is part of the Eyeborg Project, which aims to record the world from a view that's never been seen before.

The wireless video camera rests between two layers of a prosthetic eye. The OmniVision video camera is very tiny, only 3.2MM 328 x 258. When Spence puts the camera in his eye, a magnet is waved in front of it to turn it on. The video footage is then transmitted to a handheld screen.

Kosta Grammastis, a former SpaceX engineer, designed initial prototype. In 2009, the eyeborg camera was named one of the best inventions by Time magazine.

    Some things cannot be unseen...

    You were warned...

The ASU Honeybeez are getting their own Snapchat show

Alabama State University’s plus-sized dance team, the Honeybeez, will be the stars of Snapchat’s upcoming docuseries.

The 10-episode series will hit the short-winded social media platform April 25 and will showcase the teams’ life on-and-off the field. Actress, producer and New York Times best-selling author La La Anthony is producing the series with ITV America’s Leftfield Pictures to highlight the teams 2019-20 season, according to a statement from the university.

The Honeybeez has been featured on America’s Got Talent, the Steve Harvey TV Show, Bama State Style and Live at The Apollo. Most recently, the inspirational team was seen all over the world in Nike’s “Dream Crazier” advertising campaign. James Oliver, ASU’s band director, created the viral dance team in 2004, providing an alternative for plus-size dancers who wanted to audition for the Stingettes dance team, he told AL.com in 2017.

The team now has 25.4k followers on Instagram, where they broke the news. “Overjoyed and looking forward! The best is yet to come," the post said.

“With COVID-19 keeping so many in America worried and anxious, Snapchat has produced a true feel-good show that features our Honey Beez in a documentary-style series, which goes much beyond just their performance routines and shows the viewer the private side of the Beez,” Oliver said in a statement.

And that private side is led by coach Anna Marshae Williams. Williams plays an “integral part” in the show. “People will be amazed how our plus-sized girls are just as talented, flexible and regal as any other so-called ‘regular’ dancers," she said in a statement from ASU. "It also shares the ranges of emotions that are involved in having a team do well and look great.”

"Plus size movement"? Praising obesity. There was some jiggling in that video that could cause a Tsunami if they're not careful.

Coronavirus: California city official resigns after throwing cat during Zoom meeting

VALLEJO, Calif. — A planning commissioner in a California resigned Saturday after a video was made public showing him throw his pet cat and allegedly drink a beer during a Zoom meeting between city officials.

Chris Platzer, a member of the Vallejo Planning Commission, told the Times-Herald in an email that he had resigned from the agency, effective immediately. The resignation came days before the Vallejo City Council was to consider a resolution to remove him from the seven-member commission, the newspaper reported.

During an April 20 meeting of the city’s Planning Commission, which was being conducted on Zoom, a cat could be heard meowing off-screen. Platzer said, “I’d like to introduce my cat,” before picking up the animal and tossing it off-screen.

Later in the meeting, Platzer was seen holding a green bottle. He put his device face-up on a table and began drinking from the bottle, the Times-Herald reported.

“I did not conduct myself in the Zoom meeting in a manner befitting of a planning commissioner and apologize for any harm I may have inflicted,” Platzer wrote in his email to the Times-Herald. “I serve at the pleasure of the council and no longer have that trust and backing. I extend my gratitude to those who have supported me during my tenure. I have always felt that serving Vallejo in a voluntary position is honorable because Vallejo is worth serving. We are all living in uncertain times and I certainly, like many of you, am adjusting to a new normalcy.”

Platzer has served on the commission since 2016, the newspaper reported. His term is set to expire June 20.

Vallejo Mayor Bob Sampayan said Friday that Platzer’s actions were unwarranted.

“This hurts the credibility of the city,” Sampayan told the Times-Herald. “What happens if a developer is watching the meeting (and sees that)? They would obviously have concerns about the city.”
