When you park the truck, do you leave the truck in gear and let it come to rest on the gears and then apply your parking brake? If so, then when you pull it out of gear the synchros must not be lined up until you roll it forward or backward a little bit.

Just for shits and giggles, when you park the truck, pull the parking brake before turning the truck off and letting the gears take the load of the vehicle. See if that makes it easier to get into gear when you go to leave next time.

I used to have this problem with a Honda Accord, it’s no big deal, you just have to figure out how to work around it

My Tacoma is auto but I still use the parking brake every time I park because if someone hits it, I don’t want it breaking the parking pawl in the transmission from a simple fender bender.

There is no interlock on my 2017. It will shift with park brake applied. These transmissions are a bit notchy until they are broken in. I find mine is nice and smooth after 38,000kms. ( While I sit in it, engine off, park brake applied shifting making vroom sounds.) Glad I am not the only one! @TeecoTaco

Because 1st and reverse are not synchronized it can be difficult to shift into either of them from an idle/ start.
Try releasing and then depressing the clutch pedal for a 2nd time before attempting to shift into 1st.

Almost always crank truck and let it warm up 3 min in neutral. If truck is already warm I will still let out the clutc in neutral. This is not something I usually think about.

This truck does have synchros for 1st and reverse. My guess is the amount of torque in 1st gears and reverse causes synchros to work harder.

I just have the lowly, but amazing SR AC with a 4 banger and the 5 speed. I can start my truck anytime in any gear, as long as the clutch is fully depressed. I can shift into any gear I choose with the parking brake engaged or not. As long as I fully depress the clutch pedal. Sometimes, I have to double clutch.

It's just a matter of the order in which you do things; nothing but a habit change. When you come to a stop, leave the clutch in like you're at a red light and put it in gear, then kill the engine and pull the brake and let the clutch out. Everyone find their own system. You'll find yours. It sounds like you have terrible luck with where your gears line up but there's nothing actually wrong.

Yes there are 3 pages of crap before my reply but I'm not going to read through 3 pages of hurrdurrIt'sAManual idiocy.
