    I thought when they first started that they only built the truck beds and shipped them to CA, then that eventually led to building certain model Tacoma's.

    Yes...they produced beds for the pickup because of the "chicken tax". Once that became a non factor they transitioned into Tacoma production in 2002 and began rolling out '05 models in '04...if I have my info correct
