Sorry I wasn’t speaking to your diagram specifically. My thought probably tended to be a bit more philosophical than instructional, with the top bit noting that an interruption of the hot wire, say right after the ignition switch, would still be bypassed if one were to connect the ‘disabled’ hot wire to 12V say with what used to be a pack of NiCad batteries and now is probably LiPo connected at the right spot in a fuse box to power up the hot wire irrespective of a kill switch. That is, a kill switch works as long as an attempted illegal hotwiring (only takes a second with a battery pack and access to fuse box) does not bypass the kill.

My comment about already having relays eluded to the fact that the COR is already in place so you can put a switch on its signal wire and avoid having to place another relay that might look out of place or be another possible point of failure.

Lastly about ECU I was saying that you can make modifications to the signals it gets, and it will decide to not run the truck. This is more difficult for somebody to spot and reverse.

I fully agree that your use of a relay is a great way to make a kill switch and it no doubt helps people figure out their own scenarios, thanks for that.

The drawing in post #55: cigarette lighter is sitting there as if you don't want to light up a smoke and it will not start, push in lighter as if to light up a smoke and truck will start.

That scenario is extremely unlikely. 99.99999% of thieves have no clue about wiring, batteries, or anything like that. Maybe if it were a Ferrari or Lambo idk.

Aftermarket Bosch, Potter & Brumfield, and DEI relays are extremely durable if mounted pointing up. Hook up to the ECU and you better think about what is going to backfeed into what, using diodes etc... but why? You obviously can think, use the aftermarket stuff and hide it well. Eay peasy, lasts forever and a day.

    So far so good.

You can certainly add a kill switch using a relay. My point was that typical means of hotwiring can defeat the kill switch, depending on you you set it up. Sounds like you have a method you like, nothing wrong with that.

I should really consider one of the options here seeing as I leave my truck often in the boonies and people here love rippin Tacoma's off. Good thread. I had never thought of the possibilities.

But thieves don't hotwire anymore, they haven't for decades.

I know several "professional" car thieves that are all in retirement now (next is 3 strikes). One of them moved next door to me after they retired. BTW, I have a clean record and am not a thief nor connected to any and never have been connected other than knowing several that are in retirement from that occupation.

Flatbed tow trucks and brazen hoodlums stealing keys is how they get the expensive cars nowadays for the most part. Some of them have expensive electronics to aid them. But hotwiring? No.

Not here to argue with your opinion, you are happy with your kill switches and I’m comfortable with that.

In this set up the seatbelt needs to be plugged in and the cigarette lighter pushed in all of the way in order for the vehicle to start. How many car thieves do you think plug in their seatbelt before starting the vehicle and light up there smoke at the same time?

Steering wheels cut like butter, cut the wheel and bend it, slide off The Club, took about 2 minutes with a saw bought at a liquor store for 99 cents. I lost the bet and had to buy the beer...

So do you sell a harness based off of where folks want their kill switch ?
How can I get down with this?

@DG92071 Hmmm... I’m guessing you’re located in Cali.? Between your CAI / Cowl system and your knowledge of wiring I wish I was closer to you. I would pay for your expertise to install some wiring as I hate wiring with a passion as I have screwed up wiring many times...

Yes, in San Diego. The CAI systems I posted aren't mine, I was probably trying to help someone out. Wiring is definitely one of my best assets however I don't know factory Tacoma wiring hardly at all. I've completely wired 10 hot rods and countless boats through the years.

Can you post a picture of your truck? I like them lowered or lifted and yours sounds interesting.

I had a kill switch in my 91 and 95 toyota pickup. We put the on in the ashtray in the 95 and in the 91 we put it in in the mirror. The cap that covered the bolt to the roof would come off, and then flipped the switch. Someone stole my hide-a-key when i was in highschool so i ended up with the switch and would pull the rotor. I caught the guy that took my Hide-a-Key one day as he was trying to steal my CD case out of my truck.
