    G'day all,

In general, is it recommended to replace the Tacoma stock battery when installing a winch with more than 8,000 pounds capacity?

    Thanks for your time.

Lots of variables here. The 2nd gen came with a larger battery if you got the tow package and lots of people run with just that.

What size of battery is in your truck now?

Do you plan to use it a lot or is it there just in case you get stuck?

From the recommendations I've read an 8k winch is the minimum for our trucks, lots run 9k -9.5k and 12k is overkill.

Most winches I believe require 650CCA and I may be wrong but I think stock Tacoma batteries are at least that.

    Thanks for the reply.
I should've provided truck details to expect a reasonable answer.
2018 TRD OR with OEM tow package; to my surprise the OEM battery is only 582 cold cranking amps. Had I checked the battery before asking the question I coulda had a good clue to the answer.

As for usage, been looking at a 10k Smithybuilt x20 as a safety device. I'm out alone 50% of the time and a hard core believer in if ya get your self in trouble ya should be prepared to get your self out of trouble. That doesn't always work, but at least I know I did all I could.
    Cheers
