So, a guy wakes up one morning to find a gorilla in his tree. So he calls up the gorilla removal service.
Guy shows up with a Rottweiler and a shotgun
He says "I'm gonna climb the tree and knock the gorilla down. The dog will grab him by the nuts and lead him into the cage on the truck"
"What's the shotgun for?" the homeowner asks
Handing it to the guy he replies "If the gorilla knocks me out of the tree, shoot that fuckin' dog"

I hate screws that take a flat head screwdriver. Hate is such a strong word, not nearly strong enough here though.

A guy wants a beer so he ties up his Chihuahua outside and goes in.
A little while later a guy comes in... "Who owns that Chihuahua?"
    "He's mine" the guy answers
"Well, you owe me 500 bucks. He just killed my Rottweiler"
"My Chihuahua killed a dog that size? You gotta be kidding me"
"No I'm not. He choked to death on him"

Wow, that's a helluva long way for that cat to wander.
    SD to CT?

If there's one, there are most likely more. :notsure:

    Thanks for the link.
I'll send it to my friend who saw a "big cat" years ago from his tree stand.

So the article says the DNA is a match with the Puma population in South Dakota.
I'm disappointed that the article doesn't go into more depth on that.
Just how specific is that determination?
Is that merely the center of a large area, extending perhaps up into Canada?
Or is there some marker that places its origin definitely in the Black Hills?
There could be a population here that spread from the general point of origin east through Canada, north of the Lakes.
    Not just one solitary cat.

I'm reminded of the disagreement about the origins of the Eastern Coyote.
They're bigger and less vocal than those out West. (I've encountered them from time to time).
We know now that Coyotes hybridized with Wolves somewhere in Eastern Canada.
That hybrid out-competed any other varieties and their DNA is present, so far as is known, in all Eastern Coyotes.
Though I'm not aware of any extensive DNA study confirming that.
Many believe that some Coyotes were here all along and were never extirpated east of the Mississippi.

Most people don't know that the eastern half of the country is far more heavily forested now than a hundred years ago.
    Especially in the Appalachians.
PA Game News has had articles on that from time to time.
There is still extensive logging, but it's better managed, with no clear cutting.
It's prime habitat with plenty of Whitetail deer.
One has only to see all the roadkill to realize that.

    Why is this "controversial"?

I understand the red line going away with antibiotics. Again, I'm no expert.

However, I dont think antibiotics are strong enough to handle the bite location from a Brown Recluse....Now I'm gonna have to google it.

Upon further research, antibiotics are the first step in medically treating a Brown Recluse bite.

If the antibiotics dont work to help completely heal, antivenom is utilized.

    Ha.

I wasn't gonna say, but there are guys who swear that the Game Commission deliberately introduced Coyotes.
I used to hear it all the time when I was a Director at the Club.

Because of pressure from insurance companies who want the Deer herd thinned.
Coyotes and Bears are Hell on Whitetail fawns when they get the chance.

You watch, if it's confirmed that there are self-sustaining populations of Mountain Lions here...
...Guys will say the Game Commission did it... under pressure from eco-weenies and insurance companies.
    I guarantee it. :p
