Anyone install a drivers side bed cubby in your 2020?

I’m a little disappointed that they decided not to include them.

I found a couple junk yards with them but everything is still closed here. As soon as they open I'm going to get one and measure the bed I get it from. I'll post when I do unless someone beats me to it.

    For sure!

$300 is completely unreasonable for a little plastic box.

can’t wait to hit the junk yards and find one.

Me to, I would think that a wide open junk yard should be fine to shop at with this going on.

The other question to answer is are there structural reinforcements on the beds with the cubby? I wouldn't be supprised if there were small gussets on the back of the bed around the hole the cubby goes in

There is a bracket on the back where the screws secure it to the bed. I'll tey to measure tomorrow and send the info. Here are a few pics of the back.

So I went to measure and noticed that driver side cubby is in the same spot as the passenger one. If you take the measurements from the passenger side and transfer them to the driver side you should be all set. :anonymous::crapstorm:

I sorta suspected that. Is the hole and bolt pattern the same too? (bolt pattern I could just go out and look at myself, but I'm lazy)

It might be, just reversed. You can probably just use the cubby after you cut out the hole as a template to mark where to drill the holes. You going to probably want some help installing the new one, so you can have some hold the bracket in place while you secure the screws.

Yeah, word. Not too worried about that aspect, mostly just getting the hole right. I was thinking I would take the driver's side out, stencil it, transfer and cut on cardboard, compare, then you know the rest :fire:

Oh, I can check tomorrow and let you know. You know the saying "Measure twice and cut once", lol. I think the nuts on the bracket might be welded on. I'll confirm that tomorrow too. Didn't realize how dirty my truck was under there. Thought I had cleaned it pretty good after my last off-road trip, but I guess not :notsure:

For the bolt backing, I was thinking about using possibly some aluminum flat stock with rivet nuts.

And duuude... I drilled a hole for my topper wire harness and the bed is a really high ratio glass reinforced plastic, so not easy to do precision. Plus dirty and stinky!

Yeah, the aluminum and rivets might be a better way to secure it. Doing the top screws looks like it could be a PITA.

    Agreed. I'm thinking this:
    1. Confirm position of cubby hole
    2. Make cubby hole
    3. Place cubby into hole, secure
    4. Transfer hole centers
    5. Drill holes
    6. Make aluminum backing plates, confirm no interference on cubby
    7. Transfer bolt center points through drilled bed to aluminum plates
    8. Drill holes in aluminum plates
    9. Threadsert the aluminum plates
    10. Depending on alignment difficulty, glue or double-sided tape aluminum plates to bed with a punch or two to line it up
    11. Install cubby and fastners
    12. Post on TacomaWorld with pictures and words
